A month ago I mentioned that I was grabbing my old blackface Fender Twin out of storage up at the folks place, and was wondering whether or not to sell it once I had an amp tech get it back in tip top shape. Well, it's back at my apartment tonight, and who the hell was I kidding??? Just looking at it sitting in the living room all shined up, and I know I can't let her go  I can hardly wait to play the "Long Cool Woman" intro through it with some of that unbeatable Fender reverb cranked way up!

I'm jealous!

My 73 Super Reverb just got downgraded to just another old amp...

blackface Twin...you suck, you know that? :D

Just kidding of course, I'm glad you got it back, and very glad you decided to keep it. Does it still have the original Jensens? Those amps sounded so good...Rory Gallagher used either a Twin (volume around 7) or a Vox AC 30, usually the twin, that was his favorite amp. Eric Johnson uses two blackface Twins for his clean sound, so it's gotta be a keeper...

I sometimes wish mine was a Twin, or at least a blackface, then I wouldn't have had to do all that work on it to get it to sound as good as it does now. Then again Johnny Winter started on Super Reverbs, and Joe Walsh, Rick Derringer...Replacing all the caps was just a necessary rebuild, but changing the values of a couple and removing a couple more was a modification I didn't want to have to do. In the end though it was worth it, I have one of the best sounding rigs in this area now. If I can ever afford new tubes for the MX it'll be a primo rig, but the "tech" who did the troubleshooting for me to find out a transformer was bad also took my good set of 6L6's and replaced them with a set of worn out ones. $75 I don't have right now, and I didn't find out until I had to open it up again 2 years after the fact so I can't do a thing about it. I'm just glad I didn't take my Super in for him to work on, no telling what I might have gotten back...I did all the soldering and mods myself.

Hang on to that amp, it's a classic, a collector's item and one of the best sounding amps you'll ever find. I'd like to find an old Vibrolux myself, that's the amp Mark Knopfler used most in the studio, and I think also what Gilmour used a lot. I guess for now either the Super or the Champ will have to do...

Did I tell you that YOU SUCK???? :D
