Hey JW-

I think what gigdoggy is trying to point out is that social networking CAN have a notable impact on your band's popularity, not in contrast to what you are already doing outside of the network, but in addition to it.

There is something to be said for that, I've been pumping the myspace stuff since my band is on "leave" from gigging right now, I'm gearing it as best I can (and soon as we get some recorded demos of originals I plan to really lay in the massive PR onslaught!). I've been using everything you've suggested, as best I can, combined with info from gigdoggy's page, and a few other resources, to maximize our band's potential on every possible front.

I may be wrong lol, but it just seemed to me that you guys are disagreeing on stuff you really probably agree on.

I wasnt really seeing this as a disagreement actually, maybe my pitch was a bit off.

As you pointed out kramerguy im just saying web services make it easier and faster to comunicate, and thats a good thing

But yea i do believe all that DIY-web-based promotion thing everyone is talking about is overrated. Offline work is definitely the most productive part of the booking process.

the thing is that people in general love the internet. Fans have a blast with social networks.

There are street team websites now, where fans do things their bands tell them to, offline and online work. Im sure bands are going to increase their street teams with such service, just cause peeps love to stay and fiddle around behind their screens. whats not overrated is the importance of the community.

It's kind of of shame not to take advantage of that. The thing is that productive networking is hard to handle, so wasting time is part of the process in the beginning.

But yea, at the end of the day, whats count is rockin as hard and loud as you can. If spending to much time in front the screen becomes an obstacle, indeed there is a problem
