Back in the day it was closet Johny Cash and Beatles listening, but theyre cool again now.

A lot of musicians knock Boston on their first two albums but they were very upbeat and joyfull for lack of better terminology.

Yeah, Boston was great! Hated to hear about Brad Delp.

Embarassed? I hate to admit this but I think Boy George is actually a fine singer. I know he's different than most but when he first became a big star I thought he did sing well. Not my style of music, but if someone's good, then they're good. Sometimes I listen to many different genres of music. I get in the mood for new age (zen) music occasionally. A piano player named Tom Barabas blows me away. Again, not my favorite music, but the man has got a MAGICAL TOUCH and TONE that I have never heard before. I don't know if embarassed is the right word, maybe some people would be surprised who I enjoy listening to. Sometimes I get in the mood to hear something different. I like to hear The Platters occasionally. In my opinion there's never been any finer harmonies than The Platters. Their lead singer (Clyde McPhatter?) was unequalled, just AWESOME control and AWESOME power. Later...

I just feel no shame when I like a band because I don't care what anybody else thinks. I admit I have an ego when it comes to the music I like and dislike. Now the ones I like that other people think I should be ashamed of are....

Okay, I'll adnit that I was impressed when the Carpenters covered Klaatu's "Calling Occupants..." but just the same, I thought her voice was a bit bland overall.

I never actually listened to any George Michael or Justin Timberlake, prolly cuz they seem so glittery & non-pro. They could be great & I'd never know it.

I did like John Denver, & I ain't ashamed of it, neither. He wrote some good stuff, & played & sang well, too. I'm told he was a helluva nice guy by ppl who've met him.

Justin and George from my list just plain sing their butts off. Powerhouses with control. Karen and John are just pure.

I mean Clay Aiken has a huge voice. He's another I'm supposed to be ashamed of. I'm just not. Talent is talent. Just because somebody was on American Idol or any other talent show doesn't mean they are lame. I think Chris Daughtry is bad to the bone too.

I think Chris Daughtry is bad to the bone too.

His North Carolina band was quality alternative metal. He had one powerful scream. The only singer that reminded me of Maynard's screams.
Now he sold his soul to pop.

I don't know about his old band. But again, commercial success does NOT automatically disqualify you from "cool school". "It's not over" by Daughtry shows some bullet proof vocals. And it's a well rounded rock song. Its like the Pearl Jam story. You know what? "alive" was all over top 40 radio. By definition it IS pop music. That doesn't take away from the legend that is Pearl Jam. I will still critique artists on their musical merit. Not by their commercial success or lack there of. Or by their look, their genre, or anything other than talent.

Well, Paul, true, but I don't think he should waste such strong vocals on some "Home" or "Over You" songs that are really cheesy and weak overall.
Oh well. Can't change the world.
