Well after doing my best "Lucky Charms" impersonation (wishing musicians would just magically appear) i went ahead and broke the ice with a drummer and guitarist from my past. After years (like 20) of the 'just growing apart' kinda thing, i just happened to run into the guitar player, who said he just recently got back into playing...and he was sitting in with and jamming with the drummer from my first actual band. Small World no doubt, anyway about 2 weeks after this meeting i called him and told him what direction musically i was headed and what my plans were, and he agreed that we should get togther, but for what i had in mind we needed a drummer, we both had the same guy in mind. So i knew for all these years where the drummer lived but i just never bothered, i had stopped playing for a very long time myself. Well i stopped over talked to him, what i was doing blah, blah, the other guitarist blah blah, he said he had just packed his kit away like 6 months ago for lack of finding anyone to play...(i liked to pooped my pants)...FUNK!!!...man, he even said "whiteboy Funk"..."blue eyed soul"...hot damn!!! man he's even taking to calling me thinking of songlists, asking to help him upgrade his drums...he's ready, though he'll have to get his chops back up...man i can't believe this...this dude even has the same damn fears i have...our ages; you know, "can we do this", "are we past our prime", "would anyone really want to see "50 year old white men playing Funk"??? He even wants procede the same way i do, test it out to see if him and i are even compatable musically (just because we like the same stuff, don't mean we can play together)...he's so much in the same thought process as me it's frickin' scary!!! *almost* I'm excited, yet at the same time cautious...Thanks for reading. 8)

I live in Glen Mills, right across the border in PA. What kind of music are you looking to do.

Lets hope it's the beginning of a beautiful relationship.

What's wrong with a 50 yr old guy playing funk, anyway? If it speaks to you, then play it.

Just don't dress like Bootsy, Franny...LOL..I found that to be too scary even back in the '70's!

Robin thanks for chiming in, i listened and i like.
Right now we haven't even played together yet, but the emphasis will be Funk, R&B, if we do get off the ground, more than likely early Motown, light disco, up to neo soul, smooth jazz (sade, toni braxton).
Like i said, it's all "talk" at this moment; neither of us has heard back from the guitarist so i haven't a clue what he actually thinks. So far it looks as though we are at least going to focus on what we are "the rhythm section" i suspect it will take some time to amass interested, like minded musicians (minus egos and baggage) and thats ok for right now. Yes we have already agreed that at least one kickass female vox will be a big plus (if and when). This guy (drummer) thinks so much along the same line that i do it's almost spooky  he mentioned that he would like to take some rock tunes and funk 'em up, the song you have in your profile would be one that i'd call a good candidate for funkisizin'. :D Darn Robin, i wish i had something tangible to offer right now, i do like what i hear...do you have any links to more of your stuff?
If you'd like i can be emailed here ( frantasy @ mail.com )
At this moment i'm/we are just at the beginning of the planning stage...it all may turn into a "pipe dream" but we at least broke ground by reconnecting and communicating.........

Franny that is so cool.

Im playing with the drummer that I started with at like age 12, we have been best friends our whole life. The singer we play with grew up in the same neighborhood, listening to the same music and we are all still able to kick ass together.

I feel blessed that at this stage of my life all of us are even alive, and still have our chops together.

I hope this goes good for you, why cant a 50 yr old play funk, arent the Barkays still gigging, Parliament, heck the same folks are still doing it into their 60s so get busy and have fun!

My attitude is if Keith Richards can still rock at 65 then I know I can at 45!

Thanks for the encouragement jw.

Speaking of the old players, George Clinton was in town a week ago, i didn't get to go though. His stuff is still alittle tooooo 'out there' for me actually.

About the being blessed that all of us are still living, i hear that and being able to play is just icing on the cake.

A side note kinda: this drummer is an avid Motorcycle rider, and Saturday he called and said he was riding down my way, that was cool and all, it's just that locally (the last 2 weeks) we've had 3 guys killed on bikes (9 in the last 3 months)...and (i know it's crazy) but the thought of him or 'anyone for that matter' getting hurt or killed coming over to see me...left me uneasy when i hung up the phone. I told him about it what i felt and he said he understood, he said he's a complete basket case when his son (22) rides without him.
Man this stuff, mainly "thoughts" between him and i, is like some kinda Deja vu voodoo stuff going on...i don't remember anything like that when we did hang together. Back then i guess an ineberated mind wouldn't feel much anyway. :D

I feel compelled to add to the above post concerning Motorcycles.
2 dead in 48 hours on bikes.

This one is this morning Tuesday, Aug. 19th, if he don't make it will be 3 in 72 hours. http://delawareonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll ... /breaking3

Don't know how long these links will stay active, if you click and get nothing, sorry in advance.

This is beyond comprehension, this State (Delaware) is only 100 miles long, 40 miles wide!!! and the rate of Motorcycle fatalies is like astronomical for an area this small.
Anybody on this board that rides....double check not only yourself, but your surroundings.

Franny on bass players theres a white guy they call Freakbass that is a Bootsy protege that I saw in a club a few monthes ago. He was awesome.

On motorcycles I raced dirt bikes for 10 yrs they can be very dangerous for sure.

Good Luck with the band, if that works out having history together is icing on the cake, my guys are always talking about things that happened thru the years and most of the time I can remember! Its a way cool deal.

Hey Franny, First off , good luck on your new endeavor.
A musical spark may come from some wack places, but
who cares ?!?!? :)
I used to live in Waste Chester, a few miles from the
Del. border. I would ride DE. all the time. Sometimes I
had the misfortune of ending up at Mikes Anus (Famous)
and can tell you the ride there was BRUTAL ! Squids on
old Rt. 100, Rednecks and Dale Jr.s on 295.....Del is
small but due to the the crazies are packed in pretty
tightly ! The Southern end is better but N. Del..YIKES !!!

Condolences to the families.

I don't have any more at the moment. I am still working on finding out how to record myself. Really hard when I don't play an instrument. Hate to say this...but I am going to an amusement park Saturday and they have one of those "Recording booths" I am trying to figure out what song to record. My "Black Horse and a Cherry Tree" was done there. So hopefully after Sat. I will have another up. Please keep me/us posted on here as to how you are coming along with your band. I would love to have a chance to possibly sing for you.

Bohemian, i was born in Chester Hospital, my folks lived in Linwood back then. Yep, i wouldn't give you a plugged nickel for any of those areas now.
Mikes opened a satelite shop in Smyrna, DE. on Rt.1 about 2 miles from me. He's one arrogant SOB, thinks waters should part for his lame ass.

If you still ride, be careful out there, thanks to these crotch rocket jerks, people have lost all respect for riders anymore.

The kid that just died is the first bike in front of the camerabike. Watch this thing, it's an eye opener, i've seen this stuff take place right along side of me before...it's ridiculous.
Watch the speedometer...
