Hey Philby,

I LUV those commercials for ambiene , proscar ,etc...They read off those side effects with such a "chipper" connotation in their voice like "HEY ! this is a GREAT DRUG but dont mind vaginal/ rectal bleeding, blurred vision, increased chance of respitory infection, consitipation, muscle fatigue, insomnia etc etc etc..Id like to think they'll be a hotter HELL for these people.. My buddy developed prostate cancer even takin that damn proscar for 3 yrs...I would advise all you 45 + to treat Prostate symptoms naturally..Yeah, my Mom is 69 and goes to areobics class 3 times a week jumpin up and down with 25yr olds...She takes handfuls of pills BUT, they're selected herbs, vitamins, amino acids, and other sups..Gotta be something to it guys???

Well Im late as usual.

Philby sorry to hear about your wife, thats a tough deal.

A couple of yrs ago when mine decided she wanted the big D, I went crazy and got all depressed. I went to see this ole country doctor and told him Im depressed and want to feel better. He prescribed Zanax. I said how many do I take, he said just take them til you feel better. I really never been into drugs, but I took them. And you know what I felt a whole lot better, I mean a whole lot better. So I took a monthes supply in 3 weeks. I went back and he gave me another bottle, it lasted 2 weeks. So I went back and the ole doc was gone and a young lady doctor was there and I said Im ready to get my prescription refilled, she said what are you taking and I said Zanax. John How many have you had. I said there were 100 pills in that bottle but its my second bottle. She flipped out and said John youve got to quit taking these things cause your probably already addicted to them. She put me on Effexor for a couple of weeks and then weaned me off them. I know what detox is all about cause I went thru it. Thats when I got back into music and I havent looked back since.

philby:

Sounds like you're making some progress, really glad for that. It will take time and won't be easy. Getting off those pills is a lot more difficult than getting on them. Be ready for a roller coaster ride. I don't know if you've ever seen anyone kick heroin or coke, but it's not pretty and this stuff won't be much better. Good luck with it, and don't back down. Keep your wife talking if possible, (and it won't be easy sometimes) and make sure she gets encouragement, but if it get to you try not to let her see you get angry. go outside and be angry there where she won't feel responsible for it. The last thing you want is for her to get the idea you're taking it out on her.

Definitely look into herbal and other natural methods, including diet. it makes a huge difference.

I get depressed more than the average person myself, I never take drugs for it, weed only, which doesn't solve any problems, just helps me calm down and ride it out. I refuse to take pills, they're nothing but chemicals that were never intended to be ingested by humans, most are actually poisons in larger doses.

Sans:

I'm always leary of getting into this topic, you being a nurse, but I'm very glad to see you do understand the underlying problem and do realize the influence of money in the medical field. It's a real shame, because the nurses are the unsung heroes, they do 90% of the work while the doctors see 90% of the money. The majority of them are nurses because they CARE and want to help, while more doctors get their licenses every day because they want that money...

Thanks for not taking it the wrong way and getting pissed because some of us are trashing the medical field. I hope I can speak for all of us and say that we do also realize it's not everybody in that field that's money hungry and ill informed...

I'd like to thank you all for being so understanding & supportive & helpful.

Yeah, Pete, I know I'm in for a buncha hell, but I've stuck it out this long, so wtf, I guess I can try to go on a lil more.

It's good to read about your exp's, John & JW. it'll help to look back here from time to time & know that this ain't necessarilly a forever kinda thing.

Bob, I have a homeopath friend that I'm gonna go see tomorrow & check if he can help out with this, too.

I appreciate it all, & am grateful that I came in here in the 1st place.

I believe that the biggest problem with pharmaceuticals today aren't necessarily the drugs themselves but rather the way in which they are administered. This seems especially true with those to treat mental disorders. To many people are taking them without the proper supervision. I am a capitalist by nature, but drugs and lawyers should not be allowed to advertise, in my opinion. Medicine should be made affordable, but available only when properly prescribed.

Now ya'll understand why I'm working in a pawn shop selling guns. :D
My RN license is up for renewal. My loving wife said I have to. She is probably right but if I had it my way I'd say f**k.
The MD used to be one of the lowest paid and greatist respected people in the community. And there are still some good men and women as MD's.
But the profit being made at risk of peoples lives just makes me want to puke. Or bust a cap in somebodys ass. Good thing Im taking a breather.
I could just see the headline, Christian Rocker Twists Off!
