I used to play in a church band. It was fun for a couple of years. However, the leader of the "music ministry" was just like all other band managers/lead singers/ego maniacs out there. He was signed to a independent christian label, and I suppose that's what made him act in this manner. Although played every show for the same reasons, fame money, and respect of other musicians. I quit the band after 2 years because the lack of variety in the music and I didn't feel like I was continuing to mature musically. I sat in for a couple of christian bands since and haven't changed my feelings towards that type of music. I think that most bands begin as "Christian Bands" then strike a record deal and become pop after that. Such bands like Chevelle, Fly Leaf, and P.O.D. all have shown this success. So I say let those who attempt to go this route, go for it. However, I will continue to grind it out and make a legit name for my band and myself.

Cheers,
Alex

Ouch! Oh man I've been called illegit before but not because of the genre' of music I choose.
Nothing wrong with "Christian" musicians playing "secular" music.
Even some of our originals is about family relationships and such.
I refuse to resort to "glorifying" drugs and perverse sex practice to sell a few songs. But thats my choice. I'm not he judge, however I do know him well.

I was in a "rock-gospel" band, back in 84-85. They stole my guitar & amp, & justified it by saying that "Jesus told them to do it." Then the drummer tried to get me in a 3-way with his wife.

I went back to my previous beliefs right away after that, to my born-again wife's chagrin.

I just figured it was a sign for me, & I followed its path.

Whenever I see someone advertising their humility & righteousness, my spider sense goes all whacko like Waco.

I know the feeling.
I never claim to be a right man. I'm one vulgar sinin motherfucker!
Make no mistake bout that. Hate and lust have been my close companions for years, I always liked the Stones Paint it Black, when I see a hot babe my ears ring like an acid trip. My favorite past time was married women, no baggage just sex.
I (if not for my knowlege of Jesus) could kill without remorse.
Now, I can see it in myself for what it is.
It has not gone away. Tis my daily battle with satin, rat bastard.
Thats why I come to tears when I think Jesus would willingly go to the cross for a piece of crap like me.

Damn Kramer maybe you should get back on the weed, or take a chill pill.

As long as someone is playing music that makes them feel good, I dont see what difference it makes whether its Christian or Secular. And the statement that its easier and more money is bullshit. I played in a Christian Rock act for 2 yrs and we didnt make any money. I played in a blues grass christian thing and it didnt make any money either. Also Christian music has a lot tighter circle of people involved. A DOVE Award doesnt carry near the weight of a Grammy.

The only advantages I saw in it was that it is more family based, the gigs were earlier in the day or night and you didnt seem to need as much volume or equipment, but as far as being an easy route its actually a lot tougher, cause to be authentic you have to live it.

I think some people go this route cause they cant handle all the pressure that goes with being paid to play.

Anyway Ive said enough, and it really doesnt matter anyway, does it, cause people are going to do what they want whether I think its cool or not.
