I got burned out about 12 years ago, and stopped playing about the time I got married.
2 years ago, I started up again.
I've got a bunch of originals, in many styles, and I've been looking for anybody nearby w/ like-interests to practice with.
2 years of (mostly) self-practice - hey - I need other musicians to work with.
I play acoustic rhytme guitar, and do some complicated rhythms. I need to tie those rhythms into another instrument.
And, you know, stuff like the eye contact and nod just before the changes, too, and talking during a song ("Hey, try that in a seventh - let's see what it sounds like.") Stuff like that. What the other guy plays affects what I play.
You know how it is. Or used to be, whichever . . .

Belle - yep - that's the problem.
They're 'out there.'
I had a harmonica player email me from Norwak - that's about a 4 or 5 hour round trip from Madison. Too far.
I am meeting with one fellow next week. His focus is on Jazz, mine is on R & B, & Blues. We'll see what we have in common . . .

Do you think my expectations are unrealistic?
Like . . .
- doing originals?
- willing to practice?
- No rap, no metal, no punk?
- knowing 6ths, 7ths, 9ths? (Heck - it's easy - a lot of guitarists probably already know some, just don't know what theyre called.)

Hmmm - I wonder how many musicians DO know 6ths, 7ths, 9ths? Maybe I'll post something, and find out.

But, anyway - hey - I'm easy. Male - female, any age (old enough to get in the clubs)

Yeah, after replying to you, I went back to my post - I guess I do list a lot of styles, huh?

But - I should limit the styles that I'm looking for, I guess.
Well - I like almost EVERYTHING!
My songs often meld different styles.
If I write 10 songs, no two are similar.
Remember Boston? They had some good songs - but THEY ALL SOUNDED THE SAME!
I can't do that - I get bored!

I always meet people half way - I'll play what they are able to play.

Hopefully I can wean them away from doing one, single style. To me, that's like only eating vanilla ice cream, when the'res another 50 flavors . . .

I guess maybe I'll go back and not list as much as I do. It probably is too much info all at once, anyway.
For anyone else who may read this - I'm leaning towards R & B.
So, Belle, you think 6th's, 7ths, and 9ths are "fancy chords?"

I only use diminished chords in a couple songs; it's not the right 'feel' for most of my music.
But I know that some 'crummy' sounding chords will sound GREAT at certain times, in certain songs, in certain places.

Hmmm, it'd be cool if we lived close. We could discuss this with us both having a guitar in our laps.
My guitar can say things that I can not.

Hmm, I wonder how many chords the average rythym guitarist in a rock - cover band knows?
You know - the type of bands you see in local clubs.
I know you don't need a lot of chords to make good music. We're always going to have G, C, & D . . .
I understand this, but my mind was meandering.
What do you think? How many open chords - (the average guy) - maybe 20 - 25? 30-40?
(I'll make you pick up a guitar, yet! )
You know the music is in you, when you need an instrument to help you think . . .
Counting all the various fingerings of every single chord they can possibly play from memory, counting sliding bar-chords up to 12 frets, what do you think? 200 - 300? (Hey! What is this, a test!? No, no - just wondering . . . )
F=1, F#=2, barred G= 3, etc. . . .

Again, I know you can make GREAT music with just a few chords, - I just got to thinking about it.
I've found several chords I can NOT play - you need 6 fingers! Or tripled jointed fingers!
And there are chords where you need longer fingers than mine.
- Just makes it more challenging, . . . need to find a replacement chord . . .

I thought some of you folks would like to know that I just mailed out my 2nd batch of songs for copyrighting. That makes 21 songs, total.


I did 11 songs on my first tape.
I was going to do another 11 for this 2nd batch, but could only fit 10 songs on one side of the tape. I didn't want to use the backside.

See what can happen when you put your mind to it?
It wasn't all that long ago that I didn't even know HOW to copyright songs.


My next set of 10-11 will take longer. I keep pushing my own envelope, and the songs are getting more complex - takes longer.

come to think about it i wonder what kinda compyright laws if any myspace has for all the no label kids out there

I don't know about you guys, but I don't think it's a good idea to post any music unless:

1) It's copywrited - and that means the Library of Congress - forget all the other 'copyright services' out there . . .
2) If it's not copyrighted, I won't post anything unless it's no big deal to me if someone else uses it.

By the way, guys, my 3rd set of songs will be a while longer, yet.
Here's where I am:
- 5 songs done
- 6 songs done, but I want to practice them a little more, first
- 5 songs are still being 'tweaked'

Let me tell you, guys, it's a nice feeling having them copyrighted.
