My most successful "big hit" was a novelty tune titled "I Like Ronny's Hair" back in the Reagan days. It got airplay from Howard Stern (when he was on WNBC) and The Dr. Demento Show. I think that I still have a 45 rpm vinyl record around here someplace. If I get some time, I'll look for it and perhaps put it up on my profile music player.
Phil,
I finally got past the grunts and fart noises interspersed with dead air for the first half minute of your song "Heads Up". Damn if there ain't an excellent tune there! In my humble opinion, I believe it deserves to be rerecorded and placed first on your profile player. I am curious as to how you recorded that version. I assume it is all you, but, due to my chronic noisiness, I would like to know for sure.
I have been on vacation from my day job for the last two weeks, so I have been busy installing radiant floor heat tubing in our new house. I am presently pouring the concrete floor slabs over it all. Ballbustin' work, if I may say so!
Haven't even had time to rehearse the band, so I'm looking forward to practice tomorrow. At this rate, we won't get out playin' by Halloween!
anyways.....
I will hook up the ol' turntable to the computer and give my song "I Like Ronnie's Hair" a spin for Ya'll first chance I get.
later

The last "novelty" I witnessed buzzed loudly and chipped my girlfriend's teeth.
HJ, wrote it, played it, arranged it, recorded it, mixed it, & forgot about it all in the same day on an old Vestax 4-track. Recently had a friend convert it to wave, & then I switched it to MP3. I don't even know where I had the CAPO, man...LOL
I did that a long time ago, & anything that wasn't voice or guitar I played on my DSS-1. I also sampled a wooden flute for that one.
Yeah, I played & sang all the parts on it, & it shows in spots, as my timing wasn't perfect on the piano part, but I was getting tired of playing it at that point, & it was just s'posed to be an idea on tape, but I got carried away with it. Never could get that punch-in pedal to work right, so I had to do everything one track at a time, start to finish.
I gotta find that old tape again. It had some good stuff on it, even if it was a bit raw in places. I need a recording device...but 1st I need a car...& a bed...& the addition finished on my house...& more work than I'm getting to get it all.

Philby,
I thought you would enjoy a pic of me and my second favorite mixer.(The one that I've been bustin' my balls off with lately)

My most favorite mixer is a brand new awesome $200 Behringer built in China Eurorack Pro RX 1202 FX rack mixer that I scored from good ol' "Musician's Friend" a couple of weeks ago, WORKS GREAT!

Back on topic.....
Over the last four decades I've played quite a few novelty songs.(besides my own "I Like Ronnie's Hair") Among them are....
Mr. Custer (?)
Party in my Pants (Barns & Barns)
Big and Stupid (Laurie Brown)
Tie Me Kangaroo Down Sport (Rolfe what's his name)
Poison Ivy (The Coasters)
Smokey Joe's Cafe' (The Coasters)
Searching' (The Coasters)
Chicken Dance (?)
Tear in My Beer (some country guy)
Right String Baby But The Wrong Yo-Yo (Gerry & the Pacemakers)
Monster Mash (Bobby Pickett)
The Headless Horseman ( Bing Crosby)
Another Mans Hair On My Razor (The Paupers)
Finnegan's Wake ( Irish drinking ballad)
Whip It (Devo)
Anus From Uranus (Klaatu)
...and so on and so forth,
Howlin'J
Klaatu?!?!?!?!?
Oh man you are so frikken HIP! I loved that band.
Quite a bunch, HJ. Lots more than I do. It works, though, doesn't it, as in "entertaining the ppl?"
Wish I had that mixer, too...well, to be honest - either one! I have lotsa stuff to do with concrete, & I'll be mixing by hand over weeks to get it all done, but I'm only doing a bit at a time. Wouldn't pay to rent the thing, or borrow it, cuz it's gonna take me awhile, I do believe.

Phil,
I divided my radiant heat floor up into twenty independent slabs. We have three down and seventeen to go!
Tomorrow, my oldest son, Howlin' Justin, (named after his pappy and some moody English guitar player), and I are going to mix, poor and finish another major section. We're starting to get the hang of it. I discovered that doing concrete floors is not advisable to do with less then two people!
George,
When I'm done with the cement mixer, I'll send it on down to ya! (sorry, You will have to cover the shipping, and when were done with that mother, it's gonna be heavy cause were gettin' tired of cleanin' it!
By the way, what's up with the wall project? Are ya fixin' to keep somebody out, or keep Jenny in?
Ghost,
No apologies needed for "butting in" on this forum. It's sorta like a sorority skinny dip,"the more butts the betta!
By the way, I gave your tunes a listen. GOOD STUFF!
