All kidding aside, I disagree, A-N. If it were only about the music, then the search would be for good musicians, wouldn't it, rather than female musicians?
Perhaps that's why I tease so much.
I find it a bit gimmicky when you try to define your band as "all-girl," "all-man," "all-gay or lesbian," or even "all-Christian." It seems to put distractions & limits on what the music is all about.
I mean, it's fine if it happens naturally, like 4 friends getting together & forming a band that happens to be all-whatever, but when a person tries to set it up from the get-go within these types of limits, & advertises for one type of person, their choices often go out the window. They'll often end up settling for substandard musicianship to keep everything within the parameters of sex or religion or politics or whatever.
There are plenty of us out here who aren't just horn-dogs or flakes or drunks or druggies. Imho, WE're the ppl that should be getting the work, not someone who happens to be a girl & can play bass or whatever.
I'd gladly work with a woman or man or gay guy or any color or creed or what-have-you, if the person could keep their personal politics, religion, etc, out of the music, & consistantly play well, be dependable, dress like a pro, act like a pro, & get along with others.
See, for me, it IS all about the music, not what you are in your spare time, or however you were born, but who & what you are when you're working with me.
I don't need life-long friends to play with. It's nice, if it works out that way. But 1st & foremost, it's the music that matters.
If you need that comaraderie, advertise in the personals, not in a serious musicians' forum.
Just my useless two cents.
Sorry you hafta work with horn-dogs & flakes. If you come to this area, I can show you at least 5 musicians who don't fit that mold. Oh, & yeah, I'm one of 'em.
