Julie, you're not being a snob. In a professional band, everyone learns the song and their part, you rehearse, then perform. Even the stars after they write a new song have to take time to really learn it before they can record or perform it in public.

Thanks, Branes. I hate feeling like a snob, but I do have standards.

BTW, I finally scrapped the MSN TV & got a brand new DELL! I listened to "Frolicking Fingers" & really liked it. Now that I've equipped myself with some actual technology I can record some of my own stuff. I even got a copy of Cubase SE, but I don't have a firewire. Any way I can get around it?

Julie, Glad you liked "Frolicking Fingers."
I've got some decent recording software now, and I will eventually post 'Frolicking Fingers' with a bass-line, as a mp3.
Also, stay tuned for the "Descending Boogie" . . .
Glad you got a computer.
Good luck with recording.

AHHHHHHHH I am not alone out here!

Peeps, you all need to keep on doin what your doin. The love of the music is what keeps us from becoming a postal worker and... well you know.

All paths lead to one place. and that is only defined by where our hearts lead us if we are true to ourselves. NOT letting others m ake the decision is the hardest thing to do in this industry. The only thing I have discovered is to listen, and out of all the total chaos, hopefully make a sane decision on the direction to take from there.
The end result is a smiling, at peace soul that is free to grow musically... hopefully with others of the same outlook.
(Very rare circumstances indeed)

Does this make sense?????

Do you have any words for Frolicking Fingers.?

With some lyrics, that would sound like a cool Claptonesque bit or something.

Just a thought.

BIT - at this stage, there is my guitar-picking, and 2 different Bass-lines for it. No words, yet . . . do you think the song needs vocals? I almost think the guitar stands by itself, and I was a bit concerned about vocals detracting from a nice instrumental . . .
.
There is the bass my bassman plays, and the original bass-line I wrote years ago.
The bass I wrote is what inspired me to find the chords to go along.
But it's a super-fast bass line I wrote, and I've been toying with the idea of turning it into a melody . . .

I also have a few other completed finger picking songs I wrote, with 3 - 4 different styles, but a similar kind of sound . . . .
I love playing that kind of stuff, but I don't know how popular it'd be for a crowd . . .
And also, this kind of song (which I like a lot), is a big part of the reason I stopped looking for a band.
I haven't been able to find anyone nearby who likes this stuff, AND is able to actually play along . . .
I've been thinking of a female vocalist, if I can find one willing to put in the work . . .

I see what you mean. I guess with the words Frolicking Fingers it does state itself an instrumental piece.

It just has great solo potential to me where it could come back to a double back "Johnny Cash" like beat for the words.

But I see what your saying. I need to hear it with the bass line and see what your doing.

All in all, no disrespect intended, its a good piece. . . I like it. :D

No problem - I like listen to other musician's opinions. And with an open mind.
Glad you like it. There's a lot more where that came from . . .
.
I consider suggestions very carefully, because - after playing a song repeatedly, one tends to become blind to the song's weak points or strong points.
You know. like - you can't see the whole forest if there's a few big trees in the way . . . .
In regards to the bass-line, there's a lot of ways to approach it.
Me? I had a jazzy bass-melody.
My bass-man played mostly the chordal roots, just trying to keep up.
A previous associate of mine had a real nice approach to it, hard to describe it as a genre of music.
3 bass - players, 3 completely different approaches . . .
.
But, I think you can pretty much judge the song by the guitar work.
I guess I need to post it as an mp3 . . .
I visited you myspage page, but couldn't read the text against the dark background.
I read your bio on the other page. Your act/song-choice is interesting - sounds like fun. 500 songs, huh? You are certainly qualified to express your opinion, my friend. :)

For the kind words. You know, I just love music in all its forms. I really do. I think when they made boards like these years ago, people were able to finally dialouge outside of their "comfortable" circles. I look forward to putting up "our" music and seeing it get ripped apart and or appreciated.

We will be keeping an eye out for your mp3's and looking into more of your music.

Thanks for the kind dialouge and I hope your journey is filled with happiness and accomplishments that make you even happier.

Take care.. .

BIT,
It may be a few weeks before I post any new songs.
All my new recordings are goind onto CD for the Library of Congress. :)
I won't post a song before it's copyrighted.
.
I've got 21 copyrighted songs I can post, in several different styles.
But, lately (when I've got recording time) I've been only recording new songs for copyright.
And I do copyrighted songs in batches of 10 - 11, to save money. It's $45 per song, or $45/per collection of songs. $45 vs. $450. After I'm done w/ this latest batch, I'll redo some of my other songs as mp3's.
.
Hey, do you play any old-time piano 'Honky-Tonk,' or is that a 'dead' style?
