has anyone heard any reviews on Laney amps? particularly the Valvestate series? I'm picking one up at the end of the month and just want people's insight and opinions on them. if you want to know, it's the GH50L. and i play metal, so bear that in mind. reading other reviews i hear it's got some pretty decent crunch on the gain channel. but as far as tone is concerned and what-not is what i want opinions on.

thanks :)

the only review ive heard on Laney amps is that Paul Gilbert uses em. he says theyve "the best natural distortion". but I think thats for tube amps.

I don't think Laney has valvestate.

As far as their tube heads go - some of the best sounds from pristine clean to death metal distortion all in one package, check out Opeth to get an idea.

Valve state is marshall but as for laney I have an old aor 100 and that thing ROCKS I don't know to much about the GL series I think there SS? but the tube amps are like marshalls on steroids the clean channel is as clean as you would ever want almost to clean and sparkly. The drive channel is killer it will go from just a touch of crunch to complete over the top POWER tube heaven. Classic british tube amp. the AOR series has push pull pots for treble, bass and mid boost and switching for bright and deep. just about any sound you want can be found in this amp and a few you didn't know you wantedplus it has speaker ours for 4/8/16 OHM speakers and effects loop about the only thing it dosn't have is a DI but if you can live without one this amp has everything else you'll ever need.

I have a three ch. all tube 50 watt combo. It has two footswitchable master volumes and some of the best reverb that I have heard. It has a very high end sound, it retails for 1800. bucks, but i picked it up at a good price and would pass that good price on to you it you are interesed. I'll take 600. for it and that would be a big loss for me but I just need to get rid of it because I never play it and it sucks for a great amp like this to go to waste. If you where looking at the solid state laneys, I would stay away from that and invest a little more and get a tube amp.

i will agree buy a tube head ,the jcm 2000 is an excellent choice witha wide varity of sound 50 w is plenty but if you want to lose your hearing buy a 100w jcm 2000. with the 1960a cab.ive played most all types of amps over 25 years and ive always went back to my marshalls :D

Laney tube amps are great but I bought a Marshall JCM 800 100 watt split channel head in imaculate condition for £300 ( $597) and it makes mincemeat out of any Laney.

If you look round you can find the bargains
