I have heard some good talent here and other places besides those shows, what a lot of _____, A lot of people here and there just trying to get discovered, I think those shows are just to get our minds off the stuff destroying our wallets and those acts on those shows are making a lot of other people rich, I have seen a few that are worth it, but the rest is crap.

Personally, they make me want to vomit. I've never watched even one episode of "AMerican (golden) Idol", and don't plan to start anytime soon. Another generic corporate-produced piece of garbage.

Probably half of the people I list as influences would have never even made it through the try-outs. I have visions of Simon Cowell telling Neil Young that his vocals are "just awful", and Neil proceeding to dismantle his head with a guitar.

I have no idea what goes on in the heads of ppl that get so wrapped in that stuff!

It makes no dif to me who wins or loses, because the music they make them sing, for the most part, is nothing that would ever interest me.

I am sick to death of the cookie-cutter vocals where ppl sing scales instead of notes over tired factory-wriiten melodies. It's all just crap.

Where's the REAL stuff going on? That's the question. The new edge next generation hopefully GOOD music. Who's singing & playing & writing it?

I wanna hear it, dammit.

I dont really care for AMerican Idol, but I have to hand it to the people that make it thru to the top 5. Just think of all the media attention, having to learn songs that you dont really want to sing. GOing thru the styling deals and add spots. My hats off to the people that go thru it. ANd oh yeah listening to Simon ream you out live in front of millions of people. I mean its really incredible for what it is.

I just wonder if there is anyone here that could suvive the process? Hey it is showbiz. Whether anyone wants to admit it or not, in order to be successful on a big scale, most not all musicians have to go thru this type of process. Lots of them cant handle it. I know I couldnt.

You know what? It does ruin it a bit for musicians who don't go on the show. But guess what? That's how the market is. It's an open door to the market. Doesn't guarantee success, but it ensures a beginning.
Anyways, the few rock voices that came out of it are good, imo.
Don't watch it, but when someone's name keeps bouncing off people's tongues, you'd be intrigued too. 8)

Yes it is Andrew, and when the average joe like myself can get his hands on the appropriate equipment, coupled with advancing technology they will be obsolete. Then we will rule the world!!! (of music)

Yeah we can all get the technology and record CDs.
But we shouldn't kid ourselves by thinking that's all it takes to make it in the music business.
What about -
-marketing: selling the max. # of CDs for the max. total profit. (sell less CD's for more, or more CDs for less?)
-planning and goal setting with definite time-tables
-marketing yourself and your band
-finding gigs
-organizing shows
-renting or buying the huge sound systems and light shows?
-industry contacts
-finding/selling merchandise
-print advertising
-Radio/TV interviews
-Radio/TV advertising
- and 100 other things I didn't think of . . .
.
There is no way on Earth that one person has time for all that; -
-especially if we have other obligations in our lives . . .
.
It's a fact that everyone's success in life will ultimately, somehow, require the help or cooperation of other individuals.
It is up to us to talk to the RIGHT people.

Dang it Alan. I was trying to do the KISS method. You know keep it simple. But for sure any endevor can out grow the individual.
I pray that day comes sooner than latter. 8) Advertising is expensive in most any form. Word of mouth is the best they say but it's damn slow or so it would seem.

Well, the more one wants a thing, the sooner they may obtain it, eh?
In the mean time - we'd all do well to make a list of all the smaller goals which must be accomplished first, before the major goal can become a reality.
Success doesn't just arrive: it accumulates . . .
