I put up a new sample of the song I'll be collaborating with The Hunter on.

It still needs some mixing. As far as the string scratching.. It's acoustic, that's part of the flavor.

It's a small and basic sample, but there will be a full version, and I'll be working on spicing things up as the week goes by.. This is gonna be fun.

Believe it or not, this used to be my Korn cover of a song called Daddy.

Anyway..Tell me what you guys think so far. And please, by all means, be honest.

Thanx for that. I've got some great vocal ideas and I can't wait to hear the full version.

I like, and despite the intent of the string rub sounds it detracts from the beauty of the melody. I,d do my best to lose that noise.

It's hard to get that sound.. but I come to think of it as the acoustic sound's trademark haha
Sounds just fine, Shredd.

F*ck you dude.

Seriously.

Why put a teaser like that up there?

That opening is killer.

If this was MySpace I'd delete your ass for that.

But I'd log in once or twice a week without telling you, cause I'd still want to hear the finished piece. LOL

If you don't get serious about music, I mean REALLY serious bro, I'm gonna come up there and kick your ass. And I'll bring Anthony with me, cause I used to hand out with alot of Irish friends before, real Irish, and they'll throw down in a heartbeat. So will Mexicans though. LOL

What you DON'T want me to do though, is get my Philly friends started, cause they trade blows to the face for fun, WITHOUT even being angry about anything. LOL

Friggin' Neanderpaul and Jimmy and now you and Hunter.

I'm jealous. :-)

Dude, I told you a long time ago how talented you were as an artist, a writer, and you're also a good arranger. I'll buy your album and support you in any way possible to see you get where you should be.

Thanks everyone.. This is gonna be fun.

-Sans.. I'm recording direct with my Ovation. It's almost impossible to keep the scratches from happening because of the chord changes required. It's really not so intentional.
The only way to keep it down would be to lower the highs in the eq, but I'm not so willing to do that. Even the biggest of pros can't avoid it unless they're using a different recording method (like micing the soundhole, but an Ovation does'nt give you that option) or nylon strings.
But in general, amplified acoustic guitar= scratches. It's just a given that it's gonna happen. It's part of the characteristics of acoustic guitar. It gives a song a human quality when you can hear the fingers running across the strings. If I wanted them to be completely gone, I could have just recorded it with an electric in clean channel, but it would have taken away from the intimacy of the song. I'll still probably eq some of them out though.

-Craig, I put up the sample mainly to let The Hunter know that I still plan on doing this. Today was the first time he's heard any of it as well and I didn't want him to think I gave up on it.

I used to play this song live. I won a battle of acoustic artists with this song. Korn only played Daddy live for a very short time. To this day they still refuse to. But when people heard an acoustic version, it was an instant crowd favorite. ( of course, you should know, I did this cover well before Korn even came close to thinking about doing any of their songs acoustically)
Due to Korn's stance on not wanting to play the song anymore for personal reasons, I still refuse to record it with their lyrics. It wouldn't be cool to them.( I have a feeling they'd sue me pretty fast even if I tried anyway.)

So because of that, I'm tweaking the song. The intro is new, and I'll be tweaking other aspects as well, so I'm kind of reinventing the song as we speak. The rhythms are really cool and it would be a shame for them to go to waste on a cover that the original band would despise me for making. It's time for this song to become it's own entity, and just leave Korn to let the song they wrote be what it is and die out on their own terms.

-Howlin. I had a friend of mine over today, and he agreed with me as well that The Hunter has a killer voice, and has a lot of talent. Our styles can be very similar, so it really did make sense to me that it would be cool to collaborate a tune with him. And this one is a monster.

Thanks again everyone. Sorry it's just a sample, but the full version is in the works. Stay tuned.

I know dude..I didn't get that vibe. I wish I had better recording equipment. I have a subwoofer hooked up to my computer, and I don't hear it as much. I do need to be careful of that.

In my headphones it's almost non existent. When I do a final mix, I'll listen to it with the sub woofer off. Make sure it's not so fingernail on a chalkboard sounding..

I'm still wondering how exactly you're gonna get the full version to me.
I'm gonna have to import it into my BR 600 to record the vocals, and I've never done that before. I'll check the manual to see what it says, but if you have any plans or ideas please fill me in by sending me a message to my profile or starting a thread.
And thank you for the compliment.

All I can really do is make it a Wav or MP3 file and you'd have to download it. From there I don't know..I've never done anything like this either.

Maybe some of the other guys can give us a hand here..

What is the sound of one hand clapping?
I know you guys will work out something. Cant let a little tech problem stand in the way of ROCK!

If you guys have a messenger that has file sharing, just swap .WAV files back and forth.
If not, and you have to do it through email, then stick to mailing .mp3's back and forth. WAVs are just way too darn big to be emailing.
For the acoustic string squawking, try some of that guitar string lubricant. 'Fingerease' is one brand, I think.

Oh, and don't trust headphones when youre trying to mix. They lie.

There are millions of ways you can share files.. like GT said: by messenger.
Or by email.. attach the file. Or on here, allow it to be downloaded. Or try a file sharing site like 4shared.com .. and so on.
