Listen closely to Black Dog & you can hear Bonham count in the start/stop verses....you will hear only one click from his sticks. This does not occur when they go from the verse line directly into the main riff.

So Sting accidentally sat on the piano keyboard during an outtake in the studio and laughed about it.....what did we end up with? The intro to Roxanne.

The intro to Virtual Insanity contains a soundbyte from the movie Alien. It's the sound of the ship's computer "Mother" logging on.

anyone have some other neat facts about some famous toonz??? [/b]

Wow, you must have been bored  I've heard millions of these little facts and or myths over the years. But damned if I can remember any right now. Maybe some of these other guys whove had more sleep can come up with some.

I got one for ya Stu,

On the classic 1966 recording of "Two Trains Running" by The Blues Project, Danny Kalb opens up an excellent guitar lead by slightly retuning his guitar. It sounds perfect! Danny is one of the great unsung players of that era.

cool topic

I like doing that, Howlin'.. even on the acoustic.. you get that eerie haunting sound.
Great topic indeed.. let's see what I can find. I can't remember any either.. and I slept 10 hours (for once in what? 4 months?)

Alright, Skynyrd fans, this one's bout Gimme Three Steps.. "gimme 3 steps mister..." yea I had to sing it =P

It's local legend that the song takes place in Bowling Green, Kentucky. After a gig at the Tobacco Warehouse, the boys from Skynyrd went down the road to a bar in town called The Little Brown Jug, thus "I was cuttin' the rug, down a a place called The Jug," which is where Ronnie Van Zant ran into an angry local man with a gun.

Andragon,

Not true. It was in Jacksonville Florida, where the band is from, that this happened.

Here is a pic of the bar where it happened. It is still there, new name, but still serving. Back in the day, it was a biker bar.

Here is a newspaper article confirming this, but we Jacksonville natives know all this already. It is confirmed on some official Skynyrd members sites as well!

Here are some more pics from Skynyrd songs and lore:

Urban legends. They get entrenched.

I wouldn't have known any better, I just happen to be from Jacksonville. LOL

You were right, that it is based on a true story though!

Same with "What's your Name?" by Skynyrd

The lyrics:

Back at the hotel
Lord we got such a mess
It seems that one of the crew
Had a go with one of the guests, oh yes

This refers to crew member or roadie "Craig Reed" who met Ronnie Van Zant by chance at a hotel or something, and was invited to hang out and party with the band, and he just never left. They liked him, and he became their main roadie and gopher, until that fateful day when the plane went down. He was actually on the plane too, and pulled from the wreckage.

He has a GREAT interview about his experiences in this newspaper article, here:

Well for any Beatles fans here, check out the bottom link. If you have "too much time on your hands" it's fun to pop in the Beatles CDs and put on the headphones to check out all the observations. Some are questionable, but most sound like they are pretty accurate as to what's up with various anomalies on Beatle records....I think I'll repost this as a fresh subject also so it doesn't get lost at the bottom of this thread

P.S. I find the "Album index" on the left the best way to go If you're going to use the actual CDs to listen along with

What about the intro to Neil Young's "Alabama"...would it have killed the drummer to flip the lever on the snare drum?
