General Music Chat

First off,
This MP3 is only 10 seconds, the music is really only about 8.
So listen carefully and maybe repeat it a few times as necessary.

I used a clean channel out the headphone jack of my amp, going into the line-in on a laptop. With Garageband, I set up a track with lots of gain, lots of echo, lots of reverb, and a bit of EQ (not much).

I think this setup would be perfect for a big solo in a metal tune.
Now all I need to do is write one.

Since this my first time using echo and reverb I won't be afraid to take some sh*t if it is way overboard... but I was going for that big 80s sound.

What do you think?

Hey we have another Captn on here now... ..I like the "Tone"..Has that tube compression (overdrivin the preamp) sound to it like Santana...Being a 70's guy, Im prone to like delay,and hall reverb on gtr..BUT,I thought ya used alittle too much VERB .Hey , If ya want that BIG arena sound nice n FAT and FULL without all that VERB decay, try "stereo field rotate" AND/OR "pan/expand"..Its a cool effect that kinda has a surround sound likeness.Dont know if garage band has anything like that??.Yeah,I put ya in "cool edit" and used both of those on the riff and it really had a nice ambience...Put one up dry, , and Ill send ya an example.
The MIDI Metal was not really my cup of tea , but it was interesting...

I didn't mind the reverb, but that delay was too much. Try recording a demo dry, meaning, no chorus, delay, or reverb, just guitar and desired distortion. Find your tone there and then apply effects sparingly until you are comfortable with your 'personal' tone.

As far as the midi thing... I don't want to be harsh, but the only way I can find to describe it was that it sounded a lot like the music from doom2 from back in 1994, 100% cheese.

get up some good demos, make us proud. Don't use the cheesy garage band effects, or anything else. Even those drums were god-awful.

Sorry if I'm hard on you, but I do really want you to succeed, consider it like tough love

oh - p.s. if you are shooting for big 80's sound, it was mostly reverb, with very low and suttle delay. High midrange / low treble on the guitar solos, generally.

Like Kramer dude said, easy on the delay. The reverb is actually very nice. Not as "full" as you may have wanted, but it's definitely a good start.
