Hey Gang,

GEEZ, No one responded to the first posting???.You guys tryin to tell me somethin???.I know BG/Oldtime music is not popular on here but thought you guys would at least offer up some EQ opinions?.Not 1 response???.Please take a listen , the tunes are short so you wont suffer too much,,

I rather take a beatin than EQ acoustic instruments in the digital realm. No forgiveness at all.. Im bout tempted to 4 trk this stuff on my 21 yr old YAMADOG, THEN record it into Cool Edit...I swear it would prolly sound better...The first 3 tunes up are short banjo arrangements with guitar and bass..Please give each one a listen let me know what EQ changes ya hear and which has the best mix and EQ...

Thanks,
John

I listened to all and overall, my preferances were Blackberry Blossom and A New Life. I prefer to hear the actual instrument. Personally I like the sound of all of the pieces. However, the second selction sounded too much like Blackberry Blossom. This doesn't help much , I know but I did want to lend you some support. :)

Hey ,

Thanks for the response Black 57...Yeah , oldtime fiddle tunes are primary based on the diatonic scale and rarely go chomatic..These tunes were popular in the 17 -1800's and they do sound alot alike... ..Yeah , what Im really wanting to know is the EQ properties..
Eqing acoustic instruments has been TOUGH on the computer...(for me anyway)..Yeah , BBB has the best over all EQ of the 3 I think but, just wanted to get your alls opinions...Yeah , I kinda forgot about" Let her go"and A new Life Those ole sappy thing 's been up there for so long... .Lord , I wrote those back in 80's and what you heard was done on a lil 4 tracker. (can you say track bounce..)...

Thanks again,

John

I wish I had some advice for you but honestly I thought they sounded fine. The banjo on Old Time Melody could be cut back just a touch so you could hear the guitar a little better but that could just be me. As far as the EQ, I thought they all sounded great.

The banjo is such a fun sounding instrument. I liked the wayyou had it mixed. Matbe tone down the volume just a smidge on the banjo.
My son walked in as I was listening and said all you need is some guy slappin his leg

Hi John! So I like 'em all! :) Sorry...probably doesn't help  I can tell that Old Time Medley is more "wet" but that's how you like it right? lol I thought the EQ sounded right for each song.

Well, I'll be damned. That sounded like fun. I would've liked the rhythm acoustic to be a LITTLE bit louder in Blackberry.
While it isn't ma thang, I liked it :)

Mix is fine just a touch hot on the banjo. The EQ was a little lacking highs on the first track, the second sounded better, but the eq on the third sounded best with regard to the highs. Good stuff!
