so many r askn wat i use 4 larger shows so i'm going 2 post answr here an refer furthr inkwyry 2 this post and answr coupl tech questions.i use hartke3500 as a preamp only bypassing and not using internal power amp @ all.i use 6 each PV FH-1 15'' subs(old SP-1 cab w/out horn).i replaced old black widow w/new PV pro-rider.i use 3 EP2500 amps.each amp has 2ea 1200watt single amps and i power each single cab w/ a seperate amp w/amp power full on.4 best pure hardrock bass sound from active electronics and hartke amps w/contour, DO NOT USE CONTOUR and use PASSIVE, I REPEAT, PASSIVE input.set switch on bak 2 post preamp and slave amps off this output.set master gain wide open.w/guitar volume on full SLOWLY open both preamp volumes together untill desired loud volume w/ur desired eq is heard.make double sure all volume and power amp settings r @ zero b4 making any cable or a/c power connections.

Wow! I've never really played that big of a gig to require that kind of equipment. That sounds like a helluva set up, though. I noticed you said NOT to use the contour...I used to have a yorkville (which was basically a Hartke knock-off) that came with the contour feature. I experimented with it a bit, but was never crazy about the sound. What exactly is the purpose of it?

Davo, why do you use that rig and where? Post some pictures and some audio.

Not to be an ass, but I used FH1s back in the 80s and compared to the speakers out there today, all they are good for is a big paperweight or firewood. And we had ours loaded with JBLs.

400-500 watts and a good 8x10 cab is way more than anyone needs these days.

Good Luck and hope youve got some high paying gigs to afford roadies or back surgery.

u & i r probly more alike than maginable.probly could b great fiends, i mean friends.jus 2 b honest w/u,some of us like 2 do more w/more but that dont mean more is always necessary or better.jus guessing here but mayb the problem w/ur old fh-1's was eq or power amps with bad slew rate.bad slew rate wil make the best most professional cabs and drivers sound like garbage or big paperweights or firewood! i use this same rig 4 sidefill when i drum minus the hartke plus 4 horns.by the way amazingly ur posted cover rock song list is virtually identicle 2 mine.i bet u also like deep purple's pictures of home.the part where the music stops & restarts is jus simply gud jamin.take care.

I'm with jw123 here, 400 watts and a 2x15 or 8x10 should be plenty for 95% of the gitgs most musicians will get. If you need to set up in the astrodome, mic the damn thing. That's what I do when my 45 watt Super Reverb isn't enough for the venue.

That said, I don't think I want to pay too much attention to someone who has no idea how to spell or use decent grammar and is too lazy to type the entire word he wishes to use. Howlin you are right, the good ole SVT, the old one with tubes and a 8x10 to me is the standard which all bass amps are compared to.

As far as tone, I always like the little flip top Ampeg, to me they just had the best sound.

Davo, If you need a guitarist for something down your way, I can probably handle the stuff you play. As you said you and I are probably a lot a like. I always had a reputation for being one of the loudest guitarist in my area and am still known for overkill. However Dothan is down in southern GA if I recall so I would need a really good gas allowance to get down that way to play.
