I too got started with music at an early point in my life. I was 13 at the time. I played in a band until I was 18 and I just stop. I sold my 61' Fender Strat . I graduated from high school and went to college. During college and up until I was 37 years old I did not play a single note on any instrument. On my 38th birthday I found myself in a music store looking at another Fender Strat. Ten guitars later (I had to make up for lost time) I regret trying to walk away from music. Sure, the music that I was playing sucked when I was in my teens. But it was mind and I loved it. I loved the band thing too. This was my extended family. It wasn't all love either. And although I got alot better at playing the guitar (my wife said so) I realized that the music was in me and I didn't need to look for outside reasons to keep doing it.

What you need to think about is whether you want to try to make a living from your music or not. The music business is pretty hard. And even the best talent out there miss a few meals. And if you are great, you are always traveling, period. I didn't want that kind of life for me. But I took that to mean that I shouldn't have music in my life as a hobby. I was wrong.

I gave up music for 20 years for the wrong reasons.

Enjoy your music. It's going to be there for the rest of your life! 8)

You posted this same question about a month ago- A few of us responded, told you your stuff was worthy-

If you believe in what you are doing, then you shouldn't let anything get in your way. We all want kudos and positive feedback, but I'm wondering if you are seeking attention for the sake of attention.

Out of the blue,
I'm very impressed by the song in your profile. I've heard a lot of music and I must say I actually enjoyed your song - and that never happens! I think your stuff is better than any mainstream band that's out there... I'm well-versed in music history and can't stand 99% of the music made in this century thus far - but your music is actually very good. I mean I'd really listen to it if you had a record (I never say that either). Drop me an email at nextcongress@yahoo.com. And don't give up!

Giving up music would be like giving up breathing, eating, dreaming, hoping, most musician we’ll never make it in the music business not for lack of talent but because the hard nature of the business. I know I’ll never make a mark in the music business but I’ll never give it up, music is my therapy, my Prozac, my social life, my friend, my refuge where I seek shelter in good and hard times. Success is a byproduct of something that you love to do, if your destination is success then you have to define success, for me success is writing a song be able to play it, be able to emulate my musical heroes by covering their stuff, get a reaction from people who happen to listen to my music, I may never get a record deal but I’m enjoying the ride, if by some remote chance I’d get sign up it would be the icing on the cake if not the my musical journey is good enough for me.

I was going to post a very similar remark. How can you involve yourself in such a dream with the ability to give it up so easily. Honestly, if music and writing is in your blood, you won't give it up. Even if you were to pull yourself away from this profession, you will be back within 5 years. If you are meant to be here. I don't think your problem is with lack of imagination. You have a great imagination as we heard in your music. What you lack is confidence. This lack of confidence is preventing you from forming that great band that you are dreaming of. You should be playing your music in public even if it were for free or tips only. Your confidence will grow when you see people appreciating your music. Have you considered playing at a local coffee shop. You may not necessarily get paid, but you will get heard. AND, you will develop confidence need to put that band together.
