We are debating adding a fuel surcharge to our fee for a couple of gig requests that arent in our backyard. Either that or just give them a higher price to start with.

If you have 4-5 band members traveling in different vehicles to a gig the gas cost should be considered.

I have a big RV and the guys want me to bring it to gigs, they did until I said it only gets 5.5 MPG and running the generator on it burns a gallon an hr.

Hey Gang,

I remember, even in the early 80s', us try to save gas by all piling a a van instead of the "Bus"...I literially slept on a B3...We hit a BIG ASSED DOG around 2am just outside of Hibbing MN..I woke up with a mic stand up my ass... ...Yeah JW123 , thats a good idea about tacking on a gas fee.Gas just jumped to 3.89 here...Funny thing is though, the clubs and Bars are going broke because of lacking attendence so they still only wanna pay what theyve been payin since the 70's..I havent been on the road since 94, so I cant even imagine what its like now for you road guys.
Yeah , the optic fiber cable will the way we ALL play together swappin files one of these days...I particpated in an "On BG Line jam" the other nite..It was like doing a live radio show ...One day we'll be able to do it in real time all together...Wonder how many horses I need to haul PA , Drums and go 35-40 MPH... Can you imagine, a stagecoach takin ya to a gig... ...

I see nothing wrong with adjusting your prices to cover your costs. I've upped my hourly rate as a carpenter/handyman due to the higher cost of living, & my customers have accepted it.

If the place won't pay what you're worth, it can't afford you. It's as simple as that, unless you are willing to take the cut in pay, which is what it amounts to.

Odd that it took 40 years for gas to go from 0.20 to $1.50, and 2 years to go from $1.50 to $3.50...

That's not inflation it's greed. Exxon posted 40 billion profit last year, or so I heard (I haven't double checked that, it's just what I was told)...they're NOT raising prices because they're going broke...I'm damn proud to say Exxon didn't get a penny of it from me, I quit stopping at any place with an Exxon sign when their press release said they would pass the Valdez oil spill cleanup cost on to their customers. I go to Exxon stations now ONLY to pee...often on the floor :D wanna talk cleanup??

I'm not gigging right now, but if I manage to find a band in this musician starved area I'll have to up my nightly minimum. I think the signs said $3.52 today, nobody I know has gotten a pay raise to cover the dollar a gallon increase in less than a year. Pay me enough to cover gas or my rig will sit here and gather more dust.

Yeah gas is tough.

The problem is not just greed. It is also related to the falling value of the dollar. EVERYTHING is more expensive, when the dollar has lost half it's value.

The positive side to that, is that it will make investments from other countries go up alot, because their money has better value here. This should offset some of the trade imbalance.

Little consolation to most of us though.
