Thanks JW! I let Mike check out the amp before he gave me the recommendation to go somewhere else so if his techs aren't qualified enough, then it must be something more involved. I just hope that it isn't ruined! Anyhow about the sound thing...I just changed around my recording stuff a little and used my Caparison and everything is now totally different without the way overdriven sound of the EMG's from the Jackson. I added more headroom with the addition of my board, but still no effects, pedals, or anything to inhibit the "pure" sound of a natural recording. It's much harder to pull that off.

Hey Chris! I hate to disagree with you on the Marshall thing, but I must. I played one of the newer JVM heads and wasn't that impressed with it as a stand alone amp head. The rest of your suggestions are spot on though. I prefer no effects or modulation myself so that's why I don't like Marshalls because they need that to really have an edge although they are probably the "smoothest" sounding head that I've ever played through. My buddy Tom has the Carvin head and I really like that for it's warmth as well, but that's his thing and not mine...

I would imagine there are more Marshalls on recorded metal music than all the rest of the brands put together.

I personally use a Mesa Triple Rec and a Sunn Model T. I consider myself a hard rock guitarist, not metal.

As Ive said before its all in the tone your chasing, If you know what you want the amp doesnt matter in the end, its what you do with it.

Once again just follow the tone...........................................

JW: I think that I'm finally starting to get the "follow the tone" idea that you're talking about man. I've never had to tune in my sound because recording dudes would do that for me while I was playing, but it's finally coming through my thick skull. Sorry about not liking Marshalls, but I never like to "follow the herd to the slaughter" so to speak. Being different is what I'll always be about even if it becomes a mute point. Thanks again bro! I'm going to "follow the tone" tonight while I play this new idea out of my head, then I'll post it up here...

As I said before when I first heard Dimebag I would have sworn he was playing a Marshall or at least a tube amp, but no he was playing a solid state Randall.

I love my little Carvin Nomad more every day. No dancin on butttons. Played last nights practice, just using the tone and volume knobs on my Strat. I did alternate between the clean channel and the hi-gain for genre specific tunes. Hell Yea! el Cruncho Grande! I was pretty hot man, pulled some lead riffs out of my The guys and I were looking around to see who was playing them. Ray did a complete new arrangement with rain while we were off. I really like the new sound. We did not record last night but as soon as I have a sample I will put them up side by side.

JW: Dude you race motocross too!!! I'll put some of my pics up on my page for you to check out bro!! I earned my AMA Pro License back in 2000 racing for Yamaha through Alek's Powersports in Erie, PA. Now I have a fake knee (left) and several screws and pins in me, but what the hell. I'll never quit that sport and now I'm getting my 5-year old son into it as well as playing guitar and piano. Maybe all of us hard rock/metal dudes are actually really crazy for real man. Anyhow I've got him while mommy (psycho b!tch) is at work so it'll be a while until I can record this new idea, but I'm still gonna follow the tone. If you ever raced in AMA district 10, 12, or 5, then you probably know who I am especially from Vets Nationals. Last name is Crowe...

Stay away from Mesa Rectifiers then if you're about being different.
I like the older Marshalls, newer Laneys, and anything with Lee Jacksons name on it. Oh, and some Peaveys.
Although... I've never heard a Fender amp that sounded bad, so let us know what your take is on it once you get it dialed in.

Shred9 I never made it to the pro level. My son got into racing mx around 6 yrs ago and I did too, at the ripe old age of 38. We raced all over the southeast, never made it up to PA. Always wanted to hit the Mt Morris national but never did. After all the injuries to myself and my son we have gotten into different things. Hes shooting trap and Ive gotten back into music. Ive found that no matter what you do you have to committ to be any good and its hard to do 2 or 3 things that demand so much time as music or mx. My drummer also races mx.

Yeah man I hear ya on that. I still like to race about 2 to 3 times a year just to let the little punks know that this old man can still smoke them with style, but I spend all of my time with my music other than that anymore. Thanks to you and all of your advice, I called Mike from World Of Music this morning and he convinced me that the amp that I really need is the new Marshall JVM 410 half stack for my playing style. He also said that when the Fender stuff comes in that he'll just sell it anyway because he's an authorized Fender dealer. He also recommended that I try an MXR 10-band EQ for scooping out the mids for rythyms which is something that I've never done before. Well I'll be off to pick the new toys up here in a little bit so I'll keep ya posted on what happens next...Thanks bro!
