Bandmix deleted my post about looking for a bass-player I guess.

Just wanted to update...

We have a bass player coming in to audition tomorrow.

I have corresponded with him by email and asked him
if he wanted me to send a few files by email so he wasn't
coming in cold and had a little time to play with the songs.

He wrote back... "As far as sending music for me to listen to, you can. It's not really necessary. I'll have no trouble with the material at all."

Woah...

Cocky? Or is this guy good?

I'm intrigued!

He's bringing a small amp to try out, but said...

"I'll just bring a small amp for now, and if things work out I can bring my SVT rig. That'll get rid of any cobwebs you may have in the house!"

It would be nice if this works out. We have a gig May 9th at a pretty good venue here.

Has a great stage and good sound and lights...

Best of luck Craig! Here's hoping he is as talented as he seems to think he is. Who knows maybe he said that because he researched you and found your myspace tracks and learned the songs.

Last time I had a bass player respond like that, it turned out that he knew not a single song all the way through.

Good luck though!

I hope it goes good Craig. I hope hes better than he sounds, any body who has an SVT rig has to be serious cause you and I know those arent cheap. I wouldnt think someone who wasnt serious would have one of those.

A few years ago I played with a bass player who was amazing. This guy played a 4 string bass but tuned it down to b like a 5 string. He played by ear and it didnt matter what I played he would pick up on it immediately. Im serious anything I played he would just play it. Ive seen a lot of players but this guy was amazing, I ran into him recently and he plays fulltime, sessions during the day, live music 5 nights a week, and worship on sunday. I hope your guy turns out like this, and there are people like that out there.

Our bass player has CTS, the doctor gave him some anti-inflamatory medicine and told him to keep doin what he is doin, so I hope it goes well. We have lined up some things for June, Im ready to get back at it. We seem to still have a fan base that wants to see us, so things are looking good. We were talking and the Aint Yo Mama band turns 20 yrs old this summer. Amazing.

Yeah, that' why I mentioned that part! I was hoping it meant the same thing. And he came to practice (The Bass Player) and he sounds pretty good. Learned very fast, and started memorizing what he found fast.

I like what I heard. He's the best bass player that has come through here so far. He likes what he heard too, and wants to do the gig with us on May 9th, so we'll let him do that with us and see how things go, since we don't have time to get anyone else on board for that gig anyway. It'll be a good trial for him, to see if he works at home on stuff. Gave him 2 CD's with all three sets to work with. He says the band he has been playing isn't serious enough for him, and after checking out our MySpace and songwriting, etc... He thinks we have our sh*t together, and wants to be a part.

Looks good so far!

He says that he was half-way to a PhD awhile back, but a past girlfriend got him distracted, and had a job fixing medical machines or something last year that was a great job, but after downsizing, he was one of the ones let go. So he works a job that he doesn't really care about right now, and wants to do something with music while he has the chance. He is all for doing the touring thing, which we are working our way toward, and hope to reach within a year or so.

This guy was not that goo, but maybe not far off. He picked up stuff really fast, and I could just call our notes if I needed too, and he went right to them that fast. But he had a good ear too, and on some songs was just walking that bass, and made some of the songs sound better with parts he was coming up with on the fly.

He also took a shot at singing some back-up harmonies, even though he was still learning the bass lines. I think that's commendable. It's fairly complex to not only listen to a song you've never heard and find a bass line, but then to also listen enough to add harmonies at the same time.

So I'm pumped about the idea that this guy may work out, and not only add bass, but some more vocals as well!!!

Got some fairly long hair too. Not as long as mine, but long enough. Sorry, but hey, for a Southern Rock band it adds to the look. LOL

When people see us live they usually ask where our bikes are, cause we look like a bunch of badass bikers that are gonna tear a place up if the wrong word gets said. LOL

Good for you, Craig! Sounds like you found your guy.

Dddonnie told me he's gonna go ahead & book some stuff for us with that %@!@%# guitar player, cuz he's tired of not playin'. I'm tired of not playing too, but jeezey peezey, I don't wanna go through this again.

Oh well. I'll prolly fold on this just to play again.

DIBBITZ!!! ( that's what my son used to say when he was round 3...I think it means "damn it!" )

Ha ha. Dibbitz! I gotta remember that! LOL

Hey, I know what you mean, but you can afford to play and see how it goes, even if it is not ideal. At least you're out there, and ready, when something closer to what you need comes along! But for now, you're playing out, keeping your chops up, and networking.

Thanks buddy.

And actually, his computer has been screwing up and he has been having trouble with song files, so he really didn't get to work with the songs at all. But he heard enough of the parts that played to tell we had some good music.

He's coming over tonight to work one on one, and get some bass parts ironed out a little better. Our May 9th show is 3-Sets and 25 songs, which he has a week to get under his belt, or at least fake well. LOL

He took his bass, but actually left his amp here last night since he was coming over today. The other guy who had been playing with us, wouldn't even leave anything here overnight, even though he had been playing several weeks with us, practiced at my house many times and knew my family and wife and kids really well. Go figure.

I guess it's good that he didn't bring the big rig with him, cause he'll need that for next week's gig, and the smaller amp and head he left here was just enough to get a carton of cigarettes when I pawned it! ;-)
