I've really just started prep work, Legal issues with the will and life just keep getting in the way. I've decided on renting a drill press sometime soon, that will be the hardest part, there's a lot holes to drill. With a press I can make a back/jig so it slides on a straight line. Also it will allow me a depth stop and will be the best way to ensure that the hole diameters are precise. The tuning pegs are not threaded, they are just tapered and forced in, so diameter and depth of these holes are probably the most critical factor.

I went to school for 4 years in 70s to be a machinist...I never did work in the trade, but the lessons learned have been a big factor in my life. So I'm taking my time and making sure I am precise with everything. Another thing I'm wrestling with is how best to electrify it. Inside are two sections that baffled, a bass side and a treble side. I'm thinking of going with a couple of acoustic pick-ups and fixing them beneath the sound holes. Once it's assembled opening will not be an option, so testing is tough.

it's similar to violins but with piano pegs, you have to use a piano tuning wrench to tune it...my question isn't how will I tune it...it's more how will I tune it...I use so many tunings on my guitar it's going to be tempting to make some variations of my own...otoh it would be like tuning 5 12 string guitars, so I might just tune it to what the specs say. The wood that the peg holes are drilled in is quite hard, so by force from the strings and the tight fit in the holes the concept (I suppose) is that it will bind up naturally.

I had the same problem, but I spent some time going over the listings to see if I could find some one. I did make several contacts with several people, but my band re-formed and I'm not seeking right now. I did reply to all that contacted me.

This is a very cool site! But you are right, there is very little traffic on it. I try to spread the word every chance I get. I've been a "free" member for about 6 months I think, with one reply to my profile, only because I have my email address on my profile page, and that contact never panned out. (This may be cutting my own throat....) Seems only a few people have figured out how to do that. Without that, the only people who can contact you are paying "premier" members. The premier members seem to be about 2 percent of the total membership. Not many people are willing to pay for what might be just an experiment to see if they get any hits. You could have the coolest profile out there (with photos, sound clips, whatever), but with no email address- it's not likely someone is going to sign up for a premier membership just to send you an email. That's why this site just won't take off.
I understand it's not free to run a site like this, but take away the cool search options- and it's nothing more than a free message board (of which hundreds already exist.) I think they should just start accepting advertising and make the site free to everyone, then the site would no doubt explode with activity. That way everyone benefits. I could care less if the home page were loaded up with ads. But other than that, the site is about as well thought out as can be.
Also, if you look at most profiles, you'll see "not active in over one month." That's because most of them have bailed. As I write this on a Sunday afternoon, there are 2 other members on line; not very encouraging. ("92,000 members"? That would be great if they actually existed... It should say "92,000 people have attempted to use this site..")
Just in example: A post in the forum might sit there for a week without a response. A post in any musicians' message board will likely get hundreds of replies in a week.

HI. I'm relatively new... couple months... and I finally got a "match" that interested me and I have NO WAY of contacting that person! All I have is there profile and there's no contact info on it. So I put a msg on the forum looking for that person and hoping they would see that, and guess what... it's not there anymore!!! Even my profile says I never posted a msg, but I know it was there... it's insane how beneficial this site COULD be and it's a waste cause there is no way to find anyone unless you pay and that's just silly because no one is using it really... it's the most inactive place I've seen!
