What's your favorite movie soundtrack?

I loved "Amadeus", it was probably my fave next to "A Clockwork Orange" which is by far the bestest buncha music in a movie ever. ( I have a friend here in WV that actually had a song in that movie, but it's never on any of the soundtracks that I bought. BUMMER!)

But one that surprized me was "Crank." Lotsa hard stuff there, but it fit so well, & I found myself liking it in spite of myself..."Silly RABBIT! Tricks are for kids!!" LMAO

The other one that surprized me was "Bullworth." I hate rap, but it all fit so well that I didn't mind it.

"Standing in the Shadows of Motown," that great documentary, had some top-notch stuff in it, too...and some not-so-top-notch!

Soundtrack to "Silent Running" composed by Peter Schickele.

Runner up is "At Play in the Fields of the Lord" I don't know the composer , but it's a beautiful piece of music.

"The Double Life of Veronique" by Zbigniew Priesner

Great topic! Wow, in my mind I can't get to just one right now. I know I'll overlook something. Are we talking original score or the use of existing music to enhance the narrative of the film?

If it's original score, I'll go with anything by Angelo Badalamenti, particularly "The Straight Story." Or Hans Zimmer....

I always thought Stanley Myers' "Cavatina" from The Deer Hunter was one of the best pieces of classical guitar.

I'm gonna have to get more familiar with Zbigniew Priesner's work. I enjoyed The Secret Garden score.

I quite agree with those I'm familiar with...guess this topic is a bit open-ended...shoulda set a time parameter or something, but it's cool to see such diversity in the choices, too!

I love Isaac Hayes' work, in most everything he does, & for a while there, I was a big Vangelis fan ( I have a bunch of his LP's including solo & w/Aphrodite's Child - still love the 666 soundtrack). I'd completely forgotten how much I had enjoyed Mancini's work in so many movie scores & TV themes.

( I'm almost ashamed to admit that I've never really enjoyed the musical, either in play or movie. It's a rare thing for me to like...dunno why other than it just seems so jarring to me to have characters suddenly "break into song"...yeah, I do it ALL the time)

It's surprizing to me that I don't try to discover the composers of movie stuff more often...just a hole in my head, I suppose, and I think I'm missing a lot by not exploring them more...I'll hafta do that as I rent/buy movies in the future.

Still, in everyone's mind there are many that stand out above the rest.

Um...I would have to say that I'm a huge fan, & never even knew it! His works is in two of my faves listed above, Bulworth & The Good, The Bad & The Ugly, not to mention the many many others he has listed.

If you really want to treat yourself, get a copy of his soundtrack for "The Mission".

Will do, Irm...I remember seeing that flick & thinking both the movie itself & the soundtrack was great. I've forgotten it in the yrs since, after watching all the stuff I do.

(I'm gonna cut down on the movies, I swear I will!)

Well for sure I agree with the majority of the ones said! Lately I've been into the soundtrack from "A Knight's Tale" and "O Brother, Where Art Thou". I also looove the one from "Blues Brothers" (& the 2000 one as well) I really love Celtic music so I like a lot of soundtracks from old legend-type movies too...

I'm surprized that none of you keyboard guys are into Danny Elfman's works.

Is he "too cartoonish" for ya? I like a lot of his work, & have since his Oingo Boingo days (no matter how gay he sounded back then!)

So to the above, I'd have to add Beetlejuice, at least.
