sometimes you just have to move back to the cities.. the peace and quiet of rural living would be hard to give up.. but if I could leave this sphere of evil that the devil has forced upon me I might have a chance..with people going out of their way to "blackball"you by lying to people about my character..what kind of chance does that improve the odds by? yeah, he has a reputation as a sloppy guitarist that tries to dazzle with some sort of off-color flurry of puked out notes, but as Paul Stanley said about Vinny Vincent, he just can't seem to see the whole picture? probably simply due to genetics.. just like math wizards are never spawned from ordinary common folks, they are spawned when a professor in math as the father, sires a professor of chemistry as the mother.. his genetics were no match to become a guitarist as he wanted..he did not ever see the "big picture" he could not bind phrases together to create a piece of music..out of sight out of mind that is what I say.. I never have to see those scum peddling their wares ever again if I don't want to.. I am on the dole as the motherphucker said.. did I leave anything out? :o

You can't overlook the wise words Tod said..sometimes you gotta move to major metropolitan centers like Dallas metroplex Boston or Phoenix..much easier to make it finding a band rather than a solo thing on a stool strumming acoustic guitar for tips in a can.. But I am learning..that's why I am practicing strumming and singing easy listening soft rock pop 70s hits rather tan being a lead guitarist..economy is tough here in the Ozarks..look at all the solo things sitting on a stool..

Dayne, if you're wanting to "make it" in the music biz I wish you all the luck in the world. I would advise to consider the music biz has changed. Young people these days want to see folks they can identify with playing music, not some old retired guy. IMO you are better off doing what Mark does. I guarantee he puts in a lot of hours playing gigs and teaching students but he is making a living with music. If you are only wanting to make a few extra dollars playing gigs on the weekends then you are good. Play in multiple bands and make 2 to 3 hundred dollars a weekend that's what I do and it works well. Good luck and I hope you succeed.

Thanks Jeff..things have sure changed since. The last band I played in Lisa Ege that made 200.00 a night in Billings, Mo.that was in 1998..now it looks like playing for tips as solo acts is the norm..didn't go to open Mic last Thurs.due to an audition but have been to 3 of them..and plan on going tomorrow..maybe Leonid will show up :o

1998 - 20 years ago. Since that time the number of bars/clubs that have live music has dwindled. A lot of places lost a substantial part of their business when smoking was banned 'in the workplace' in this area, not sure how it is in the south or Midwest.
There are a few bigger clubs that pay decent money in the area for local bands, but generally its small places, where $175 - $300 is the usual scale.
Like Haley says, young people want to hear other young people - but mostly, they don't give a rats ass about live music, they're used to crappy sound from their phones - which are in front of their faces 90% of the time. They're just as happy with a DJ doing 'scratch' mixes or just canned music.
