Do you really truly think that this was written with the idea that anyone (including felons and the mentally unstable) should be able to have access to a weapon that will cut down up to 60 people in a minute? To expect them to be able to discern that "weapons" are weapons regardless of what bleedin year it is and their technological advancements. Weapons kill people and do evil when they are in the wrong hands. One thing the "Cold War" proved is that if both sides possess world destroying weapons there can be an uneasy peace hence if people have guns in their homes and criminals enter, regardless of if they are Gang Bangers, UN Troops, or Traitorous police and military ... if the people have comparable weapons then there is an uneasy peace. That is what exists now an when the Amendments were written and adopted. This is why the enemies of Humanity desire to erode the effectiveness of the weapons and eventually their ownership.

The "Dumbing Down" and SlowKill has worked wonderously well for the reason you stated so well ... those that could have stopped it did not.
