You know a lot of older guys aren't very tech savvy, I know I wouldn't have a computer or a smartphone if it wasn't for my wife. So it just figures a lot of them aren't going to have fb, twitter, youtube videos (I know I don't), so you probably are missing a lot of talented people.

On the other hand you might have a guy who really talks up his playing skills, and meets all your criteria, then you watch his videos. He's got videos up of him in several different bands, but it's clear his skill level in music playing isn't up to par. Tho he really talks it up, so you have to settle for him, because he meets the criteria you've set up.

Hope it works for you.

Mike I was referring to the question of "what type music" and "got a set list" if you don't have that info in your ad then you are not giving good info to start with. They are likely asking those questions so they don't waste yours or their time.
They may also not be happy with the situation they are in and looking for a new band while wanting to remain anonymous until they find the right situation.

'Acoustic classic rock cover band' covers that pretty well!

Lynard- any idea how many guys I 'gave a chance' because they didn't have any music online? Me neither, I've given up count! Wasted hours of my time, literally. I don't understand why you would think I would 'settle' for someone who doesn't meet the requirements - just because he HAS music online, not that's a digital audition - have to pass it first!
Sorry, but if they do not have the ability (or a friend/relative who can do it for them) to post a simple phone video online, then they won't be up to playing in the band. There's really no excuse - if you can change the valves in a guitar amp, set up your guitar, and post on a forum, you can upload a video to youtube or facebook (it's actually easier!).

Well now it looks like the lead singer's new job responsibilities are taking demands, he could practice no more than 2X a month, which kills trying to integrate a new person into the band.
Luckily, I hadn't actually scheduled any auditions yet - although one person looked like a good possibility and a couple of other players I know were interested (but not really a good fit).

Geez, Dayne, did you actually read the thread? (Evidently not). We played this past Friday night (for decent money PLUS 'dinner of choice'). We've got one more gig at the end of March, then that's it for this band.

I know I'll probably catch hell for saying this but when a band asks me for videos out the gate I never send it to them especially if I'm meeting them through craigslist or some other anonymous sight. First my youtube videos aren't even all that great, it's recorded on my cellphone and I dont have the patience to do it properly. I can't sit there and do multiple takes till I get everything perfect. My time is better spent practicing sight reading to a metronome. Second I'm meeting you through craigslist/bandmix I don't know you like that. Third, I'm a keyboard player do you honestly have a clue what I'm doing anyways or are you just asking so you can check a box? Fourth, supply and demand, as a keyboard player it's really easy for me to find bands and unless your band is a headliner it's really not that important to me. I'm usually in 3 or 4 bands plus whatever piano lounge/restaurant solo gig I might be doing at any given time, you want me to send my homemade videos so you can judge me and prove that I'm worthy to sit in a room and play music with you? Nope, ain't gonna happen. Send me clear recordings of your band doing live gigs first and I might consider it (you asked first, be the first one to supply quality recordings). If you're playing on another level professionally that I've never played then all bets are off, I'll send you my crappy youtube videos and toe the line.

Dayne - read the post 8th down on page 2 of this thread. The singer gave up too.

The place was jammed Friday night. Could barely move our equipment in at 6pm. Some 'younger' people there, requested anything by Justin Beiber or Britney Spears! Ummm, no ... When we did an Eagles song, I introduced it as 'Beiber's cover version of the Eagles'.

Zenith - it works both ways - you want examples of the band's live abilities, they want examples of yours. Too many 'wannabes' around. A good indication is a profile that has no pictures of the person actually performing live - oops, like your profile. No live pics, no videos, no audition!
