Mike, how do you even know Soc. Sec. will be around when you retire? I figured get it while it is still around.. it's not like I did not pay in for the last 46 years+.,.if they want to dissolve soc. sec. ..fine.. just give me back what I paid in with interest!

this thread was not intended as a pity party.. it was intended to get tips as to how I will deal with no roof over my head.. if I can hitchhike to southern Florida and I have enough cash to buy a tent at Bass Pro then I should be ok.. I can always find a beater guitar again at the pawn shop, or so, I would think.. life does not come to an abrupt halt just because a guy has to give up a guitar for the time it takes to land on my feet again.. I can learn Spanish or work on myself and try to figure out why it got this far in the first place.. bad social skills tends to rott out lasting relationships that could have been a lifeline.. opportunities squandered because I tend to be an azzhole?.. prolly..it ain't what you know, it's who you know to get thru life.. a good relationship with God only seems to bring on a insurmountable heap of enemies that gossip and spread lies and hate.. indirectly I have been stabbed in the back and do not know yet who is responsible, but you can bet it was a devil's seedling that is responsible..

Guitar Mike it is amazing and very impressive the knowledge that you possess on very different subjects. My admiration. Dayne I do not think it is a pity fest ... remember there are many here who have become acquainted with you and think fondly. they are expressing their fondness by expressions of both concern and sympathy,

Planet Guy's last Post was doing this using his sense of humour and also his concern for your well being I believe. Your Post expressed an overwhelming sense of confidence and assurance which surprised me as well. Your attitude is up and your confidence is up ... you have a plan and are pretty aware of all the circumstances so ... go for it.

Glen ... that was a great Post Ta. George ... you are unfortunately correct and this can be a rather hard Forum for newcomers but may I say I like you and respect your opinions even if I do not maybe agree but I ask that you not hold back as your knowledge and contributions are not only valid but also valuable to us all,

Glen I can identify with your Post. I am 65 and have lived out of the USA much longer than in it. I have never counted upon getting "Social Security" my GrandFather saw to that and he has been proven totally correct with time. Just like all piles of "Money" ... the Political Filth have robbed it and continue to do so to an utterly ludicrous extent.

Great Thread Dayne with really Great Posts. The Best of luck to you.

No guarantees regarding SS's ability to pay out at any time - it could stop next year or in 10 years or 20. If you need it, go for it, just be aware of the limits when you are also working, and once you start taking it, you can't put it on hold.

I've been running all the numbers for over a year (when I hit 60). But with a mortgage that is a long way from being paid off, and a younger wife, I'll working until at least 70 - and even then I'll need some money earned from music (or Uber) to survive.
But you only get one go-round, so I try to enjoy every day (or as much of every week) as I can.

The Irony of this is Mike would have been better off putting $5.00 dollars a week in a bank account earning minimal interest. Instead he has payed in thousands and will receive squat compared to what he could have done.

God bless your socialist ideals Mark. I agree with them totally. I just don't agree with how they are applied. When our government comes up to us with a GUN in our FACE, in the name of the LAW... That is were we go our different directions. I actually feel sorry for you because you have been led down this road, of abusive government...
STILL YOU RALLY BEHIND IT!
I hope you get your pittance of a payback. SOCIAL SECURITY!

man, the feeling of camaraderie is enveloping me as I read all you people's tips and guidance .. what a swell bunch of fellows, but then, what would you expect from musicians anyway?.. musicians are a special breed of creature, in my opinion more in touch with the miracle of existence than the average bear..all of you baring your souls as you strive for perfection always on the hunt for that tune that eludes you but you feel it's essence in your hearts and minds and you march on trying to capture and re-create it but what a struggle to reel it in and "display" it for others to perhaps enjoy by only listening with the heart rather than the mind?..you are all sensitive souls poring out your sensitivities in honest and fulfilling ways .. every one of you is special and touched by the muse.. I am taking to heart all your advice and loving feelings you are bestowing on me and my predicament.. a predicament I somehow felt from long ago would always come.. a time of sackcloth and hardship coming, but the fruitful harvest to come afterwards will be the peace the good Lord said would come after the pangs of childbirth have dwindled away..the bride and the brides-groom coming together in a spiritual manner and sense, as time counts down to the end of days which draws close :(

Yeah that was quite a rant.
Sorry man.
That is the other side of socialism people, JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND.
BIG GOVERNMENT...
I DON'T WANT YOUR HELP. I DON'T NEED YOUR HELP.
BIG GOVERNMENT... DO YOUR JOB... PROTECT THE NATION AND THE LAWS OF THE NATION!!!!
Oh... Stop creating laws that in the end only protect the lawmakers and steal from the people.
WTF!
There is my rant.

Oh, I put more than that into a crappy 401K every week, but that's far less than has been sucked out of my paychecks over 40+ years of working.

Got all the gear necessary to busk anywhere (battery-powered amp) when/if I need to, to pick up quarters/dollars from passers-by - did that in my post-college days, too, but we did it unplugged back then. Unfortunately, these days fewer and fewer people carry cash. Need a portable card swiper that goes directly to my Paypal.

NO SHITT!
Are you starting to understand how successful you would be if, all your wealth was not stolen from you.
I've listened to your music. You have tremendous talent.
I think you are starting to understand you have a socialist network that has taken more from you than they promised.

Good luck Mike, and don't phluck with me. I love you even when we don't agree. You have presented some bad ideals... However, mine are simple... I want to see every American be successful . Instead we have a big business called government promising to pay $20 for every $1. Now it appears the rat is coming to bite you in the asss.

Fine balance... I feel too many many wealthy leaders have been dipping their fingers into the pool. Republicans and Democrats. It is time to drain the swamp.
Scary... I don't think president Trump will be able to do it... We have allowed a government.... That does not want to see people like MIKE BIRCH to fully reach self actualization.
NOW THAT IS SCARY AS HELLL! THAT IS NOT AMERICA!

Dayne ... it sucks to be "Homeless" at any time but just before Christmas is pretty hard. My Wife and I always invite "Strays" to our home for Dinner this time of year. Over the years we have accumulated several. I would extend an invite to you if you were near but please know that you are always welcome ... anytime. Merry Christmas Dayne.
