Hi to all...

I am a singer/songwriter from Florida looking for a new home...to start new band/original project. (very serious). I am considering Seattle...can anyone offer some insight as to whether or not it is a good city for music?

It sure hjas a rep as a "music city" especially after the advent of Nirvana. The few people I know who have moved there for music reasons, though, have reported mixed stories about it living up to its expectations.

One of my drummer pals moved up there to get more into punk, and he did quite well at first - landing a gig with a punk band that was touring on the Warped Tour. But he said it was a real let down. Exhausting, difficult, exasperating, not real lucrative, and when he got home to Seattle he found that his girlfriend had left him. Last I heard he's poking around other cities to which to move.

Another musician I know is a female vocalist, and when she moved there she had one disaster after another happen until she decided to move back to Utah. BUT, she formed a band here and they got somewhat popular, and Seatlle became one of their best stops. So in her case, she couldn't live there but they rolled out the red carpet when she was touring THROUGH there.

I guess in the end it's what you bring to it. You know the old saying "No matter where you go, there you are." If you love seafood, great coffee shops, lots of music venues and lots of cold rainy weather, you'll love it there.

Hi, Jadelynn!
I'm also here in G'ville. You're leaving us? Tonight is the weird and wacky Tom Miller show! You can't leave us with all that going on!
And what about Tim and Terry's? OH, the charm of Gainesville!
Besides, you might be under the "Indian's curse." You know what I'm talking about, right?
Ever seen my show?
Angelina
Well, gotta go; on my way to the Shamrock to see TM's weirdness tonight.

The Indian's Curse? You haven't heard that one? How long have you been in Gainesville?

Those of us who have been here FOREVER always joke about the "Indian's Curse." Back when the white man, the tongue-in-cheek story goes, won the war and stole the land from the Indians, the Indian Chief turned to the white man and said, "Okay! You win! You can have the land, BUT YOU WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO LEAVE GAINESVILLE--EVEN IF YOU WANT TO!"

I've seen people come back to this town after being gone for DECADES. When they return, they joke, "Yeah, I guess I'm under the Indian's Curse."

There are so many times when I've wanted to get away from this F**KING town. Then sometimes when I do go to other places, I come back with renewed vigor toward Gainesville. Friendships here seem to run deeper than other places I have lived. Prices are friendlier. The weather is better than Ohio, and the hurricanes don't seem to like us.

The Tom Miller Show was exceptionally disturbing tonight--not funny like Tom usually is. He showed a documentary on 9/11 which more than indicates that the Twin Towers came down just like a demolition. It was very well documented. The second film was about a show at the downtown plaza where they tested the limits of "free speech," from our Bill of Rights. The show was terminated because, in the name of "free speech" the actors dared to suggest that 9/11 was staged by our own government. Right here in Gainesville--one of the liberal hold outs of the nation. Pretty f**king scary!

It's times like this when I contemplate leaving not just Gainesville but the entire United States. That thought plays in my head quite frequently, actually.

And you? How long you been here? How do you spend your time here in G'ville?

A former G'vile resident that now lives in western NY ready to embark upon Nashville to go touring.I lived in G'ville for 11 years off 98th ave going towards Archer.I worked at the Regency Oaks Apts on Archer Rd during the infamous G'ville college murders. My memories of G'ville were during the football season when you didn't dare go into town unless you were part of the fan frenzy........... :D

Hey, Rajon!!!
How nice to hear from ya!
So, do you miss it? Do you ever miss Gainesville? If so, what do you miss about it? BTW, the apartments on Archer Road where Danny Rollins brutally murdered the guy and gal roommates have been completely evacuated. Gatorwood--that's it. They're in the process of tearing down ALL of the buildings! And as you recall, that was a HUGE apartment complex!

Anything you miss about "Hogtown?" When was the last time you were here?
