Dunno 'bout anyone else, but... If I'm offered $1200 to bring a 4-5 piece band to, say, Ohio to play a gig--a single gig--I'd turn it down. I would spend way more than $200-$300 in expenses (food, gas, lodging, etc.) to make it worth my while--despite the fact I love Ohio and wouldn't mind heading up for a visit...as long as I don't need to haul my hefty rig and work when I get there. There's also the fact I'd be driving up through Georgia, Tennessee and Kentucky, a long-haired old geezer w/ an SUV full of musical equipment. I'm sure nothing could possibly go wrong there.
But I'll play a 3-hr. piano bar here in the Tampa area for $50, esp. if all I need to do is show up. If they throw in a bar plate and some sweet tea, even better. In contrast to that 'big money' Ohio gig, I'll have more $$ in my pocket and will be home in time for the news. I guess I'm just crazy that way...
