Dane - I grew up on Cape Cod. "old money...whaling". Ummm, no. New Bedford, Mass had some of that. 200 years ago. My mom still lives there and I know a few musicians there. They're doing the same $125 (solo) to $250 gigs everyone else in Massachusetts does.
There are some 'McMansions' on the Cape, and housing is expensive, for sure. But Cape Cod, for 3 months a year, is host to thousands of tourists - everyday middle-class folks with their kids vacationing by going to the beach, eating fried fish and clams and lobsters, playing mini-golf and eating ice cream.
The only 'large' venue left on the Cape is the Cape Cod Melody Tent in Hyannis, a 'theater in the round' that seats over 1000 people, they get touring groups like Lynrd Skynrd, the Beach Boys, etc. http://www.melodytent.org/
Other than that, the only possible high paying gigs would be for private parties at one of the seaside resorts. I hope this guy isn[t gving you the same kind of song-and-dance that the state fair guy did before.
BTW, expect to pay $200 a night for hotel rooms on Cape Cod in the summer - the pay better include expenses, too!
Off-season, even the resorts close up after Columbus Day weekend as the weather can be too iffy.

Edited to add: I see in another thread you say 'in 4 months'. I can't imagine where on the Cape you'd be playing in November or December that would pay $1200 (band) fees. How many nights a week will you be playing? Note that you will need to fly into either Boston or Providence, RI and then rent a van to get to the Cape, only puddle-jumper planes fly into Hyannis. Unless you're driving from Missouri, of course.

Glad you got to play with some others, maybe it will turn into something for you. BTW, I'm 61 and stand up 100% of the time to play gigs and practices, sore knees, feet and all!

what? the pizza joint you are playing at (and I mean literally playing) can't provide you with fresh pizza anymore? and the stale pizza is causing food poisoning and effecting your somewhat already borderline sanity mental faculties?
:)

you're delusional again.....the Italian restaurant you're referring to got runner up for "Best Pizza in MO" for 2016 and won that award in 2015.

listen...if YOU can't get a paying gig in MO....that speaks to YOUR abilities (or lack thereof). don't confuse YOUR lack of skill to score a paying gig w all the other musicians who regularly play paying gigs....if the best YOU can do is busking for change and splitting a five dollar tip you make at open mics...that's cool if it makes you happy.

but really, there's no need to throw stones at musicians who are out there and playing gigs for money. that just makes you look small and bitter... you know, like you have a chip on your shoulder.

why so butt sore? they didn't feed you guys at open mic at Methy's Pub and Billiards???

look, i'll be playing 4 gigs this weekend....

no pizza or food served at any of them.....they pay with American currency (just like every restaurant i play at). 8)

whatcha got lined up this wkend? -busking for change at the swap meet? open mic at the pool hall? just don't forget to bring your tuner! :D

I am never seeking a playing gig!.. you are making up stories again.. let me repeat this again, I posted a small ad on CL in which the description stated "let's jam and see where it goes from there?" never did I say any mention of desiring a paid gig.. even if I did want to play for paid gigs I would need $200.00 a night to even consider performing unlike you who will play for stale pizza and warm beer.. if I get a call from somebody looking to pay $200.00 tonight for a gig. I would do it,.. I wholly thought I would maybe find a JAM in somebody's home instead of being invited to an open mic to jam..when the bar owner of the establishment we played at is sending me kudos about how great I and we as a "band" that night and when Sean says "will see you soon again" on FB ..I think is planetjerk just an envious phuckhead attacking over and over again, cause his chops are very limited as to what he can do with any stringed instrument, that's what jealous people do..LOLk

planetguy plays for peanuts, any reputable musician would not consider the peanuts he plays for, folks, he is simply in it to stroke his own ego, otherwise why would he spend more money than he pulls in? ...and..lug heavy gear around for so little compensation? LOL! :) he might make a good roadie though, but at his age? LMAO :D :D  n

He's got a good point here, Dayne. I know you're able to laugh at yourself sometimes, but it doesn't hurt to celebrate the work of others, like Haley did for you in this thread. It's not very professional to criticize another musician for working, and you want to be a professional, right?

And that gig in Cape Cod doesn't quite pass the smell test yet. It's not impossible that you get $1,200 for a gig but that ain't the modus operandi of a local bar. Either way, what Mike explained to you is the gospel. Divide that between 4 guys and after expenses on a trip like that you are lucky if you didn't lose money. It would be different if this was just one in a string of gigs lined up closely, but a one-off going that far needs to be about 3k - 5k before you'll see any profit.

Sounds like fun if you like road trips though.

And did I miss something? Planet guy has cancer? When did that happen and what's the status?

yod, as long as he wants to continue with the rudeness as in (tuner with a rude comment cartoon) I will not back down as I perceive his little tiny music charade to be.. even HALEY once commented, "where do you work at planetguy"? I mean because 2 or 3 small peanuts gigs can't support him.. just for instance, just think and be reasonable, HOW MANY PIZZAS WOULD THE ESTABLISHMENT HAVE TO SELL TO afford to pay anything other than small change? granted, they might pay them more as a TAX WRITE-OFF cause it's no doubt some sort of family related biz, but still, think Ted, Think! :D

he just can't stand the thought I will soon be making decent money playing out, while he does his repetitive pizza gigs, why has he not been found and advanced? that is the real question, if he's so good, why does nobody agree. other than his cohorts, cousins, and associates he's invited to this forum as allies..LMAO :D n
