Before this turns into another "My Stuff" or "Jookey Strut" let me tell you how to get your forum more views. First, you play good music...not just ideas or fragments, even if that means working with other musicians to get the right sound.

Second, challenge your critics to play your music...which they will judge harshly due to their own inadequacies...and publicly humiliate them thru non compliance. This one you've seen work with your own eyes. lol.

Finally, get BM members to contact you and begin networking in your city or the city you think will give you the support you need.

Hope that helps you out some. I don't usually do this, but you've been so level headed throughout the time we've known each other, I felt like pointing you in the right direction wouldn't be a waste of time, words or effort. I'm here if you need me.

I guess I will toot my own horn, memphis, have you listened to the genius embedded in my tune " A Lazy Mind For Me" ? it is sheer genius.. it took me 6 hours to get it right.. how do I find a smooth jazz crowd to peddle it to? .. best thing I have ever written and performed.. :)

why won't they recognize the fact it is beyond the normal boundaries of music? why can't they appreciate the beauty of it? :D

They can't like what they cant see. You've got guitar and drum, same as your other works. It won't get the same respect as a full body of work, period. You need those elements to get your idea across. Otherwise, you just sound like you're not serious and you won't be taken seriously. Also consider some new pics. Your imaging is way off. Would you book someone with your profile pic? Imaging and production are part of this biz.

BTW, six hours is not a long time to compose a song. js Plus, have you seen the pic of planetguy when he was in bandcamp with the caption "thank you all..."? lol. Go to my forum before he takes it down. lmao.

Dane,

It's more important to know what to do, than how to do it. Anyone can learn "how" with enough practice, but it takes concentration and imagination to know where you're audience will be when you're done.

That said, smooth jazz is considered a commercial joke by most professionals, on par with Muzak. Since that wasn't really smooth jazz, you should avoid tagging yourself that way.

But it's not hard to write a real song. Something that had an idea behind it first. Take some of your rants and put them into rhythmic patterns with a strong melody. Sing them into your cell phone and THEN learn the chords to support it.

Don't worry about how good they are at first, just get them down into a structure....and you can change what is weak about it later. As you do this, your songs will start getting better. When you've got at least 30 in your catalogue, you'll be the person who knows "what" to do.

No matter what anyone tells you, the basis of ALL music everywhere is the song itself. Be the person you think you are every day, starting now. Write the songs people want to hear. You can always hire the world's best musicians, if you have the songs.

I always thought smooth jazz had more followers than avante-garde jazz? or acid jazz? free-form? .. but nonetheless, with only 6 people that have at least listened to it, (soundcloud stats)..we can not assume it is getting a fair shake? I would like at least a sample audience of 1,000 listeners to listen to it to give it a fair bias? .. with six people I am not getting a fair assessment.. :)

and I want 1,000 NEUTRAL listeners listening to "A Lazy Mind For Me".. I do not want bandmix members particularly listening and judging because they already have their pre-conceived BIAS already built into them, simmering emotions from crap spewed on this board, etc. they would say it sucks just because of past dealings with them.. am I getting through? :D

It might be fun but it doesn't demand a response.
