Agreed. So much so that I'd be inclined to put a piano track to it. You left some nice pockets for a piano to pop up, and it's ripe for improv. If'n I can find some time--haven't been playing as much lately. Weather-wise, this is prime time down here to get stuff done outside, so I've been going at it. But heck, I think I can beat 2 mos.

Jook, can you send me the .mp3 to import into Audacity? Or can I dnload it from SC (I'm not a member)? Let me know...

Got it, Jook...thanks.

I know the sound quality is better w/ .wav, but those files are big and unwieldy. If you saw how I 'record' stuff, you'd get a good laugh. I build sequences on the Korg, which saves them to .mdf/.mid files, then hook it up to a laptop and run the playback in Audacity. It's good enough for a hack like me, and by doing it from a midi playback, it turns out ok. Crude methodology, but producing high-quality recordings requires considerable know-how and pricey equipment/software--none of which I possess.

We were doing a session one night and Greg (guitarist) recorded some stuff on his iPhone. Even more rudimentary, but good enough to convince me I should put aside any vocal aspirations and stick to playin' the piano. Which was his point, it seems.

ahhhh, i got BOTH of you hosers beat. I do most of my recording on SVHS tapes on an ancient but well maintained ADAT xt20!!!!

yep, having come up recording on 4 track 1/4" reel to reels.... i fell in love w that ADAT technology back when it came out in the 1700's and still use it 95% of the time.

Damn show-off!!
Still have the reel-to-reel? I think I saw it in a pic a while back.
There are a LOT of top notch pros still recording to reel-to-reel and then dumping to digital.
I read an article by Steve Vai on this a few years ago.

well ya know whut...it AIN'T nuthin i'm the least bit embarrassed about.

Jook, you've heard a lot of my recordings from recent wrecks to some old stuff from the '80's ...that fusion stuff from the band PENTAZZ i have up on one of SC pages.

my big aesthetic and one that was also dictated by my lack of a whole lot of equipment (like a compressor for instance).... i always prefer listening to things that sound like the instruments are there playing in the room i'm listening too. so i've never been a fan of that very standard compressed recordings we hear 90% of the time and that us "hobbyists" are often striving to sound like. real clean, real polished. and above all....real EVEN.

and i can respect and have heard many great things that are presented that way...but it just isn't how i prefer to hear things. listen to any of the stuff i've recorded over the yrs and good bad or ugly...that's one thing it all has in common....better or worse.....it hopefully sounds like the instruments are being played in your listening room.

BTW....Mike had a funny quip not long ago about me still using my ADAT. sorry, mike i don't recall what you said....i do recall it was funny.

yeah, so recording w 1/4" Teac A-3440 with...say it with me ....SIMUL-SYNC!

i got some of THE best bass tones i've ever recorded by just plugging directly into the TEAC and finding that sweet spot w levels to just slightly saturate before using!

i need to pull some of that old stuff out of mothballs. i probably have a good 100 or so tunes on about 25 7" reels of 1/4" tape.

i want to tell you...it did get to be an adventure towards the end of the run we had together (when the ADAT's showed up) trying to find sources for 1/4" tape....this back before the days of of "everything at your fingertips thru the interwebs!"

and yes, jook .....you had seen a photo of it. let me see if i can find the one. i think it was a post about me showing off a new keyboard stand i picked up for my Supros.
