LOL :D

the truth is that i never "envisioned" any particular thing for this tune.

after Dave (Cajun Daddy) requested i lay a minor blues walking line....i did have it in my head that he'd laying down some M Bloomfield Elvin Bishop wicked minor blues gtr...but that never happened.....so from there the song was open to go wherever the participants chose to take it. as i said in my last post....i liked some of your comping ideas.

there's at least a million different ways the bass/drums trk might be approached.

and not to beat a dead horse, but the only things i "envisioned" were good intonation and playing the head in time and with the pitches that bass played....or maybe even a good harmony. but hopefully it'd be something that didn't sound too sloppy.

chord chart? c'mon.....it's a Cm blues.

like i said i didn't have any particular "voicing" requirements other than avoiding playing a major gtr chord over minor the minor chords the bass is laying out.

mostly you had all that sussed out and as i said...i dug some of the 4ths voicings and where you chose to place your hits. THAT wasn't my problem. :D

and if we're gonna be totally honest as to you requiring some notes and guidelines....i DID provide you exactly that when you weighed in w what you thought the bass was playing for the head.

pls note....that i respectfully and politely pointed out what the actual line was w zero rudeness and not jumping your $hit.

later, i also did write a pretty time consuming layout of what i played....explaining when it came off the blues changes and hung on the "one" chord, and when i thought we should all lay out to give RG's drums a little space!

Dayne Nobody IV wrote:Planetguy opens with a nice bass run, which I believe to be Bb-C- Eb- F-Eb-G- Eb-C .. anybody think it would be cool to have the next instrumentalist play unison notes on keyboards/horns/ guitar?

Planetguy wrote:
the head that i'm playing up front is this broken down into the two note phrases as i play it:

Bb C
(8ve^) Bb C
F G
Eb C

the next bit when it moves to the Fm should be easy enough to figure out as should the turnaround

this is often a point of confusion.

when i say it's a "blues" i'm referring to the FORM and not the GENRE.

i.e. the 12 bar blues form that is used extensively in jazz, bluegrass, R&R, and country as well.

on the short list of best "blues players ever???? Milt Jackson who is acknowledged as one of THE best....

no, it's not B.B King or Lightning Hopkins "Blues"....but this form is always referred to as "a blues" by jazz musicians .....because that's the FORM it uses.

one of MJ's most famous tunes.... "Bag's Groove" a "blues in F" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s8sBHp4o-FI

how about Miles blowing blues in Bb.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LYOiGoyLNTs

or Monk playing one the most recognizable blues.... another blues in Bb https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_40V2lcxM7k

would you not call all the above...."blues" were we on a gig and you called one of those tunes?

"Hey Mark, we're gonna play 'Bag's Goove'...you know it?"

"No. What's going on w the tune?"

"No sweat....it's just a blues in F"

"gottit, thanks."
