For me, nope. Going to continue to seek out an acoustic band wanting one more player, but going to turn down any soloists looking to go duo, unless they are already consistently gigging and want me to *add* to their sound. The one (younger) guy who fit that bill that I played with back in October hasn't done any gigs since, and I never heard back from him after the last couple of email exchanges.
No immediate plans for the next album, I'll just keep writing/recording songs as they come to me.

Just not enough 3/4 music out and about.

So

One of my projects for 2017 is "3/4 Music For Drummers" (Music Minus Drums)

One of the tracks is 3/4 Death Metal

I would do 5/8 however, you can't dance to that.

remixed some modular synth stuff from my buddy in Perth, AU over the weekend. Added two analog synth parts over it. ran those through some fx. came out pretty cool, imho. Also finally got around to recording the master tracks from a project with 2 buds from about 7 years ago when I had my studio. It's like the free Jazz with electronics and dub reggae drums and stuff. I need to sift through it some more, but I was playing this stuff all weekend (much to the family's dismay) but I think it's a winner. Still trying to get my professional musician friend who just left Vegas last year to join us in our studio. He can get it going like Joe Satriani, so that would be interesting.....

there are some very good dancers at the trkstop and we usually do one waltz per set.

new for 2017?

well, my usual NYr's resolution....to improve.

we lost our bassplayer in Mere Mortals Bluegrass Band so, until we find a replacement, it's me on the bass (usually my doghouse), which is fine but i've been missing getting to play mando in that deal.

jonesin' to play some mando, i decided to bring my solid body el mando out to the trkstop this past friday.....i thought we'd play a cpl of tunes like that w me handing my bass over to the lead gtrst.

we played the first set as usual, and then changed it up for the second set.....we wound up doing the whole 2nd set that way! it was a hit and now i think i'm gonna be bringing it to that gig from now on.

Don't imagine it will be a regular thing, but over the weekend, besides doing some recording of my own stuff, laid down guitar, cello (MIDI) and bass tracks and mixed them (along with her guitar and vocal) for a songwriter friend.

Did I ever tell you my 'waltz story'? Probably, but let me repeat it for those not here back then...

It was New years Eve 82/83. Our band was hired to play the NYE party at a local Franco-American club. $$ was decent, with an extra $100 per hour past 1am that we played (we ended up playing until about 1:30).
We knew there would be a mix of all ages at this party, so besides our usual classic rock set list (which included a number of 'doo-wop' late 50s/early 60s stuff) we knew we'd need a 3/4 time song. Literally everything in our set list was standard 4/4 rock.
Only song we could come up with was 'Mr Bojangles'! (Can you name any other 'classic rock' 3/4 songs?) So second set, we introduced the song, did it, then as we started our next 4/4 song an older guy comes up to the stage and says "Can you play a waltz?" **F*ck mister, we just played our only 3/4 song** (no, I didn't say that - I just said - 'we'll do one in a while'). And we did play it again, later, along with repeating a number of our 'slow dance' songs.

No drums in 'Norwegian Wood', so we never learned it, and even though I play it now, didn't realize its in 3/4. Feels more like 6/8. It would be an awful fast waltz tempo!

Jook - Never heard of Sleep Walk or Ernest Tubbs or Cowpunk. We were classic rock guys in Boston, our horizons were limited!
