I have the same problems! I have an absolute KILLER guitar player, but not even 30 minutes after he gets to rehearsals , she's aready calling to see when he's coming home.
This guy has never screwed around on her or anything to make her act like that. He asks her to come with him but she hardly ever does. I hate when she calls and interupts practice, and it happens every time.
The dude has been my best friend for years, so there's no way I'd ever fire him, so I guess I'm stuck with putting up with her crap.

If he was my best friend I could ask him to turn his phone off for practice with out him being offended. Cell phones are handy but they have also really F/U direct personal relations. I detest trying to do something with another person and constantly having their phone ring.
When I'm out doing stuff, my people know better than call me if it can wait til latter. When my wife and I go out I insist she turns hers off or leave it in the Jeep. If not that damn thing will ring every three minutes.

I've suggested that, buuuuttttt.... I'm pretty sure he's really "P" whipped, and is scared to pizz her off. Nothing at all wrong with digging your ole lady, but two marrages earlier I was treated like that, and that's why they are previous! LOL!! I guess the old saying, "The third time is the charm" really works! At least for me that is!!
My wife loves what I do, and is very supportive of me and the band. Not afraid to critisize us either, sometimes, just TO dang honest !! LOL!!

I won't play anywhere that my wife can't protect me.

I've experienced some of these prob's over the years, but I solved it by filtering out the woosies at the outset.

I'm kinda bullish about this sort of thing...either you're in or you're not, is my philosophy.

My wife has never interfered with my music...I made it plain that I wouldn't tolerate it in the beginning of our relationship...we've had rocky times, but she has always been very "hands off" about the music. I accept her opinions, but she doesn't take it personally if I disagree, mostly cuz I'm the in-house expert on the subject.

I guess it's just how you approach ppl...I tell 'em up front that family & band don't mix, & if they can't live with that to just keep on awalkin'...yeah, your family comes 1st, but it stays outta the band, no matter what

Oh...I'm sorry about my glib remarks earlier...shoulda taken you more seriously...I see too much whining sometimes.

I'd love to go to a place & see women guarding the stage...that would crack me up to the point that I'd sshame the guys into stopping it...too funny!

LOL Howlin J - The situation with me and my hubby is great. I don't tell him what gigs to take where he's not going to travel and so on. It's his band and my place is supporting his decisions. My part of this crazy train life is being there for him we are partners and we have fun doing it and we make this "musicians" way of life work for us. I mean how many of you can say the music is supporting you 100% financially? It's rare, but we made it happen for us.

I believe the avenue we are taken is the only choice that's left and that is to replace the problem. That's why I'm here and all around. He asked me to search for him.... and the good supportive wife I am... I do!

Trust me, we've tried to make it work with our guys because it's sometimes easier to try and fix what you know, rather than, getting a whole other situation and you don't know what you're getting. But this last cancellation was the last straw.

Kramer guy - Your right! Ultimately it all comes down to the guy and based on what I've said .... you can guess what my opinion is of them.

I don't know about you guys but this topic hits the nerve of each band. I appreciate hearing your thoughts.

My wife has been the greatest advocate, promoter and inspiration to my music career that I've ever had. I'm sorry to hear some of you have had the opposite experience. It really shouldn't be like that.

Thats' the same problem we're having. These girls I tell ya are like guard bull dogs. One on each side of the stage guarding it. It's bizzare! Me... I'm running lights selling merch. Taking with people... and my guy is the lead singer. He's been gropped, kissed, ... he's the ulitmate front man. Amazing singer.

The drummers girlfriend follows him around making sure he doesn't speak to anyone. He can't take a piss without her being there holding it for him. I mean I've seen things in my time but this time around wins the trophy.

I'd say it really depends on the girl. My GF of 2 years let's say can be a little "protective" at times, but I sat her down and told her that when I'm doing my thing then I'm doing my thing. Be it talking to people at shows or rehearsing, she knows it's best to let me be while performing/promoting. I have seen on the other hand how someone's GF or wife could interfere with things.

sh*t, my guitarist used to be in a band with a chick. She was only allowed to practice when her boyfriend was around which was once every two weeks, lol.

LMAO!!!!

Yeah.... most!

There are obviously some supportive ones out there and most of the guys here are some of the lucky ones. Yeah.... maybe it took some 2 or more marriages... but ... hey.... they found that special someone who is supportive.

My wife is a guitarist (has 14 guitars, 9 effects pedals and 2 - 4 x 12" Celestion cabinets), has taken lessons from my bandmates and friends, came to most of my gigs, a few practices, and helped roady PA, lights and drums, loves heavy metal music and supports me 100% in anything I want to do musically including leaving my current employment.

Wonder where that falls in on passsing the image test?

I'm getting bored on my current job and thinking of growing my hair out again, my email if someone wants to let me hear their MySpace Music, see their repertoire'/set list and know the avg. age of the band - dtrux@bellsouth.net
