You enjoy watching performers more than technicians so I think you'll love this girl. I tracked their journey from street to record deal this weekend and had a ball doing it.
S White is a Taiwan street performer And she IS truly a performer. In a lot of videos (I couldn't stop watching Whites antics so I started tracking her videos all over You Tube this weekend.) S White and her friend, fellow street drummer (hottie) Vela Blue, take turns working the same street venues. White made a name for herself playing on the streets and becoming the most popular street drummer in Asia. They both incorporate a lot of stick tricks in their performances and the crowds eat it up. I spent the weekend being totally entertained by them. Not technicians by any means but endearing and addictive none the less. At least they made a big fan out of me. I do appreciate a good entertainer. It was fun watching them progress from the street to a video deal.

And then a recording deal that brought her the opportunity to make her first professional video

Now she's performing her own material along with fellow street drummer Vela Blue singing with the recording while doing a really fun to watch routine for the crowd. It's a Girls Just Wanna Have Fun moment for sure

The lesson learned? Put away those guitars and basses, take up drums and move to Taiwan to make it big. RG has had the right idea all along, just not the right place to do it.

Not to change the subject but you gave me memories of when I played drums on stage on the beach at the Hachinohe Sansha Taisai Festival in northern Japan. The PA system was so powerful that I could see the sand bouncing 20 feet in front of the Sub woofers every time I hit the bass drums. An estimated 1.4 million people were on the beach that day. The funny part is we were two bands before the main act. After the main Tokyo act got 20 min into their set the crowed started chanting our band name……needless to say we finished off the night with four hours of American rock and roll. Several locals came around later after the gig trying to buy my Tama double bass drums with rack. Didn’t happen.

I so love the way this girl plays….soooooo relaxed.

They're both daggone cute, if you ask me. Not too crazy 'bout their choice of music (not that anyone asked me), but they do it well. Now that Taiwan is apparently no longer part of China--according to what I've been seeing on the news the last few days--maybe I should zip over there to check it out. If only I could bring myself to like stinky tofu...

ok, the asian street performing gals have some chops...but the "performance" aspect (and certainly the music) does little for me. twirling sticks and mugging smiles that may or may not be sincere never really did it for me.

i'm always a little skeptical and cynical when i see someone "performing" in an effort to "entertain"....give me a musician who can really play and isn't overly concerned w "putting on a show" any day.

since we're sharing female percussionists.....there's no stick twirling or mugging for the crowd but these ladies can play.....

S White is a showman / drummer. I enjoy watching her more than a most of drummers because of her personality and showmanship. Her bubbly personality and showmanship took her to the Asian Awards Shows and it got her a video, and now she has some good camera mmusic money industry.

But here's the future of drumming. Neither are over 15 years old but they have the discipline and skills of drummers 3 times their ages. So it you like technical ability along with enough showmanship to hold your interest iI can't see how you would not appreciate these two drummers.

Kanade Sato @ 12 years old she won the world wide "Hit Like a Girl" contest. This was her contest entry video and it is flawless. She shows a lot of emotion although is it subtle most of the time, but it's there if you are looking. . I love her move at 1:49. You can tell that she's all into it.

this ^ might be my favorite....she's got some real musical things going on. i dig the the subdivisions and how a lot of her phrases cross over the bar lines.

i was beginning to wonder if these young girls ever play w actual musicians or only w prerecorded trks so i was glad to see the last two vids were w actually bands!

You have to be kidding me, right? Just what difference would that make? You saw the skills they both have. With skills that these girls have they can play any genre with any musicians. Senri sometimes travels with orchestras and Kanade is a rep for Rolland. $$$ I'm sure that they aren't recorded every time they play with other musicians but I did search out o couple for you. Sometimes it's hard to find stuff when you want it.

Kanade Sado's sessions with other musicians. Unfortunately few because of her schedule.

Kanade Soto doesn't take a back seat to any of the musicians she works with. However she is still in school and she endorses Rolland's' Pro Drum Line so Rolland keeps her busy. Kanade wrote the drum score for the winning entry "Drops" and her dad wrote the song and played the synths. Not too much talent in that family.

The keyboard player that sits in with Andromeda is pretty famous in Japan. He keeps looking over at little Kanade like he can't believe what he is seeing and hearing. He was rather impressed with her skill. Maybe he was amazed that she could reach everything she's so tiny.

You have to be kidding me, right? Just what difference would that make?

nope, not kidding at all. playing to prerecorded trks is like playing to a click track. and it IS an important skill to have.

but it's also just as important to be able to play w/o a 'click' spelling out the time for you. i know i don't need to tell you that a drummer needs to be able to play WITH A BAND.....drive a band, and have a good feel relationship w a real bassplayer (and the rest of the group as well).

like i said...glad to see (and learn from you further) that they ARE doing more than playing to prerecorded stuff!

I don't believe that either of those girls could possibly play along with a "click track" doing what they do. They are timing machines within themselves.

No comment on the girl sax player? I followed her around a bit but she is far more progressive than my imagination can comprehend. Besides that she doesn't play any Rockabilly. She has a lot of good videos with excellent musicians. I thought you might like her. She does a bang up job on "Thriller"
