The lyrics sound like they were lifted from some old blues tune but the guitar on that song is pretty kick ass. The big volume swells and the Leslie solo make that interesting to me.

If I have to give Page a few kudos, it would be those quirky little things like those that he did.
Like the PU switching during the IMTOD slide solos. Those little tricks that are SO simple made the difference between a good band and a better band.

Every song by the MIGHTY Led Zeppelin, especially on Physical Graffiti is greatness!!!

But how does one choose a favorite with Kashmir, Wanton, Trampled Underfoot, Time of Dying?

It would change every time you asked but at the moment I'd say I liked "In the Light" most because of the 8-guitar symphony.

Just talking some Zep on another forum. Had to look this up. 8 New songs/ 7 old songs. Physical Graffiti. Your word(s) of the day.

'Physical Graffiti is the sixth studio album by the English rock band Led Zeppelin, released as a double album on 24 February 1975 by their newly founded imprint label Swan Song Records. The band wrote and recorded eight new songs for the album at Headley Grange, which stretched the total time of the record beyond the typical length of a single LP, so the band decided to make Physical Graffiti a double album by including unreleased tracks from earlier recording sessions: one outtake from Led Zeppelin III, three from Led Zeppelin IV, and three from Houses of the Holy, including the unused title track from the latter album.'

Truckstop last night... someone requested "Lucille" (Little Richard) so after a few verses the lead gtrst starts playing his solo and goes into Zep's "Rock and Roll" . We immediately all jump on it w everyone nailing their part.

Jack sang a few verses and killed it but the best part for me was the drummer copping all of Bonham's signature parts .

Worst part? Having to play that boring bass part.

Prince wasn't underrated back in the Spring when he croaked. Good God, I thought that funeral procession would never get off my Facebook feed.

"When Doves Cry"

I always thought was pretty funny! My take on it is that he likely tried a bunch of different bass lines.....couldn't find one that worked...then finally threw in the towel and said "Fuggit, I'm done, It's finished."

There's another tune that comes to mind that equally displays that stroke of "genius"...leaving out a bass part to make a TRULY great song just POP!!!

....."Old Time Rock and Roll" by Seeger.
