Here's my Australian collaborator, The Fool. I met him on the Ween group on FB. Check out Ween. Seriously.

https://soundcloud.com/foolsfoolsfools/different

https://soundcloud.com/foolsfoolsfools/eggdream

https://soundcloud.com/foolsfoolsfools/fat

Different is somber classical tinged Jazz.
Egg Dream is bizarre Ween/ Mr Bungle stuff.
Fat Cunt- the title got edited. Most likely by SC, the kid is Aussie. Music wise - grungy techno.

I was working on my remix of his demo that he solicited opinions on and I noticed it was so crisp and clean that it was awesome to work on (compared to my noisy sh*t :D ). It sounded tight, like the Beastie Boys sampling The Eagles. He said that's because there are no real instruments on his songs. Learn something every day.

Next, DEFNDER. I met him on tapeheads. net and he's a pure analog guy.

https://soundcloud.com/defnder/tylenol-3

Reminds me of Folk Implosion and Sebadoh, two bands from Lou Barlow of Dinosaur Jr.

He led me to Watching Tele.

Another guy on tapeheads, supposedly 18 or something is Empty City. Has Adrian Belew from King Crimson as his avatar on that board.

Brilliant!

Finally, Fureon Nectarmoon. A young guy from St Petersburg in Russia. I met him on the melvins.net bbs.

so what are you finding?

Personally, I don't spend a helluva lot of time on SC. There's very little 'real' music on there IMO.
A lot of computer generated crap people pass off as music. Those are 'virtual' musicians in my book.
And what happened to real drummers? All I hear is drum machines and synths. :?

There are some diamonds on there. 'Ruthie' is a good example. Stripped down, raw and real.
I like anything that is real.

Yeah, I'm kind of immune to the drum machine thing. Listened to so much Industrial, Rap and Techno over the years that I have to pay attention to that to even care about it, provided the beats are good quality stuff. If you tell me there's too much bad drum machine and programmed stuff out there, definitely.

That's Ruthie \/

Got her from watching tele, who I referenced in my first post.

Soundcloud's a simple place to upload your music for others to hear, but do people really 'browse' other music (the stuff that pops up on the right side, or the random songs that come up after the one you select)?
I don't keep my BMI-registered stuff there too long because of the rippers who steal your music and put it on their Russian/Chinese sites. I'm going to start using Dropbox more - yes you need an app to use it, but others can click on the link and play the file AT Dropbox, no app needed.
I hate the compression algorithm Soundcloud use - if you upload an MP3 or a song with heavy compression, then the sound can get really f*cked.
At least Bandcamp lets you sell the songs, not just host them. If you are just putting a track out there for others to listen to, you can set the price at $0 so there's no limit on listening to it.

Wanna show me yer hot sh*t with a drum machine? Can't wait to hear it.

Does anyone really listen to other peoples songs or feeds on there? Yes, I do. They do. We all do, except for Mike and Jimmy.

98% of the music on there is crap. I can't dispute that, but I look for it. I look for something in the following or followers of everyone who comes to my attention. Is it a total waste of time? Maybe to you, but to me it's a worthwhile pursuit. Surely you know someone who spends every waking hour (and most likely a lot of their work day) playing spider solitaire on the computer. Is that a waste of time? To you, yes. To them, nah. Let people do things they enjoy and worry about yourself. Unless someone is a serial killer.

Jimmy. Listened to a few songs. I need a punk band to change things up. I'm hearing a formula to these songs. And then it becomes a template. Just $.02.

if a guy could find the diamond in the rough listening to soundcloud and could somehow nourish the band that created it, and had the money and experience to contact them, and provide management services, and convince them you could make them big, maybe even having enough pull to provide live gigs along with lodging, etc. and setting up a successful tour, he might become a rich person, listening to soundcloud tunes for hours a day might pay off, if you have the right skill sets being a promoter/manager/booking agent.. of course, for starters you would need a lot of cash on hand..

RuiMusik wrote:Well that was the formula in 2011. Those songs were all from our CD that we released that year "From The Bloody Banks Of The Detroit River". Songwriting changes over time for me, I'm writing harder rock these days. BTW we don't think of ourselves as a typical punk band, we're more 70's proto-punk, like The Stooges and The Ramones mixed with psychedelic hard rock. But our peeps get us, that's why we've lasted 20+ years.
That's good. I'm just hearing too much metal sheen in that Les Paul through a Marshall metal sound on the rhythm guitar and the lead guitar is just pretty basic blues throughout. Who sounded like that in the 70s? Gimme some production like Raw Power.
