SamBop ...Ta for putting me "straight". Safari quit unexpectedly on my computer so that is why the delay. I am not a Christian although when I was 9 I read the Bible. I had polio and both my legs were paralyzed for over a year and I read virtually everything I could get my hands on. I have several different Bibles in my Library which I have collected over the years. I often use them for reference and research and occasionally enjoyment ... also one of them which is huge, old and tough is ideal for cracking nuts I have found.

I am no expert in Biblical verse and interpretation but the way I interpret the verse is ...

It is verbotten to lie with another man ... meaning having sex as you would with a woman. I think this is considered blasphemy in the eyes of the Creator. When it speaks of killing those who do ... I take it to be meant as literal and the part about blood upon their heads I think refers to the standard method of execution at that time which would be stoning ... hence the blood on the head. So I take it literally and this I must say on several occasions gets me into many arguments. But for me it is like the Constitution and meant to be taken literally as well as also on other levels ... but most definately literally first and foremost.

I personally feel that now because of the seeping softness and ease of living which Humanity has experienced at least in the West ... well most think life to be teddy bears and Walt Disney. I for one do not. There are indeed huge differences between the Old and New Testaments. Years ago when I was writing Fallen Angels, my research upon the Nephilim was fascinating and seems to become now more relevant with each passing day ... and Night.

Regarding Homosexuality I personally am not into that sort of thing ... I prefer young women ... um of legal age in whichever country I happen to be in. I have had and have even now a few friends who are of that persuasion. Like everything in that respect ... I believe it to be a personal choice and as with every choice their are consequences. I could write a paper or book upon this subject however.

and if you insist on literal translation of holy books..... i guess you ARE for killing gays because it's so written in your bible.:

Again....there is a BIG difference between policing one's own community (as the bible prescribed for a specific group of people at a specific time nearly 5,000 years ago) and following the mandate of books that say "kill 'em all everywhere throughout eternity" as the Quran does.

You'll never hear me say that the problem is muslims in general, though. I've had several close friends who were muslim in my life. The real problem is the Quran itself and anyone who follows what it literally says (still today) about those who don't.

By the way, there is no record of the Tribes of Israel ever enforcing that law. On the contrary, at one time in ancient history almost the entire Tribe of Benjamin was thought to be gay....and they were the fiercest archers of the nation.

"Hah!!! You hit the nail on the head, Ted. (and that rhymes!)
Yes, what you state is the real problem.
Whole denominations are started using this method.
Take verses out a total body of work and use them out of context.
This has been a problem w/ religion for many ages.."

"Take verses out a total body of work and use them out of context."

Really? Jokey, Really?

Do you mean like taking an Old Testament scripture that is no longer relevant (Putting homosexuals to death) due to the new dispensation (love sinners) and posting it in reference to a question someone asked concerning what Christians and Jews today are to do to homosexuals?

By your response to the post below I would take it that you think Christians and Jews still stone homosexuals?
..........................................................................................................

"Do all Jews and Christians kill gays?

Leviticus 20:13- "'If a man has sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They are to be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads."
.......................................................................................................

Your response certainly does appear to be taken out of context about as far as it could be.

"Please explain posts #267648 & #267653." Why should I? II'm not playing your silly diversion games. They have nothing to do with the post that I responded to.

..................................................................................................

See everyone later. I'm gone for a while. :) :)

This is a weird place to discuss the topic of literal vs non-literal interpretation of the bible.

I read it very literally, allowing for metaphors and symbols to be figurative. The penalties we are discussing can only be applied in a Theocracy run by God himself. Apart from that condition, there is no one capable of being an impartial judge. That Theocracy ended for Israel when they chose a King like the nations around them.

Homosexuality is a sin against oneself, just like adultery, or fornication. Sins of the flesh are paid in the flesh, but these are sins against your own soul/spirit because of the lasting impact it has without, and apart from, redemption. For every sin there is also guilt associated; and this guilt is what weighs heavy on a person's life, even more than the sin quite often.

The homosexual has a reduced average life span by about 20 years less than the average heterosexual. Statistics say that 75% of them were molested before age 16. I think that number is higher, actually. So I find that homosexuals are confused and hurting individuals. Judgement and criticism doesn't help that situation, with the possible exception being if they molest another person, and the damaging cycle continues.

On the other hand an adulterer or an aggressive fornicator has no excuse (even when their partner is willing). They are taking advantage of another person, so judgement and criticism are quite appropriate. Not that it would do any good....

God is not some killjoy who wants to ruin our fun. The Torah (law) is for instruction in boundaries that keep society, and each individual in society, safe from injustice or being defiled by another persons sin.

No different than telling your kid to play in the yard because the busy street will kill them without help getting across.

Great Post Yod ... JookeyMan I was not certain if you had seen his Post. I do think that if he was active online he would engage you in debate. That sort of thing seems to be what he likes when it is someone like you. Yod's perspective I have learned here is unique to others on this Forum. I have come to respect him greatly and because of this I tend to disagree with him less. If he were elected President then it would be much much better than any filth that the existing political "elite" could come up with ... in my opinion.

One result of this "Election" here upon the Forum , I feel, is that the quality and points of view have for the most part taken a leap upward in validity and quality of debate. For me it is hopeful and exciting. Good Job everyone.
