Ok, call me an old geezer, but I never could quite get into those story vids, mini-movies or whatever you wanna call 'em. Give me concert footage any day; I still prefer the pre-MTV clips where folks just play a tune live. I got cable TV just in time to see the first broadcast of MTV, but got tired of it pretty quick. Yeah, I know: they're very creative, use lots of distaff elements, tell a good story, etc... I still say 'nyet.'

I'm w/ Joe Walsh on this one. That's great and all...but can you play it live?

I'll say it again.... eMpTyV set music back about a decade. At least.

I used to watch VH-1 (when that was actually a music channel  ) in the afternoons after work and they had a show that played the old sound stage recordings from the 60s and 70s. I still relish those performances. Heart - Magic Man, Tommy James - Crimson And Clover, etc.... To see a band play a complex song you've heard on the radio a thousand times, yet you can tell it's not just a lip sync and overdub affair. That rules.
Def Leppard would wear the same clothes on every night of the Hysteria tour and play the hits several times a night just to get that corny footage for those cookie cutter videos.

Jookeyman wrote:Now you guys are getting totally off topic.
Go back and please read the OP. This thread is strictly about video concepts.
I'm not a music video fan myself but I do believe some have artistic merit.
That's what this thread is all about. :?

c'mon, jook. it's all just conversation, no? and threads go where they go.

besides....there's plenty of relevance to the thread's original topic. Both DP and i weighed in w our views on music vids. Seems pretty on point to me! :D

hey, it was no skin off my nose. and i doubt anyone else was bugged by it either.

you put up a thread about music videos....and some offered up ones they like, and some voiced their opinions ON music videos. no big whoop, and it's just biz as usual from where i sit. :D

I always liked this one....my take is that the folks waiting for the bus are a thinly veiled metaphor for the Katrina victims waiting for help.

and points for George Porter driving the bus....since we all know how he "drove the bus" for The Meters!
