Dayne - I questioned that pay rate when you first brought it up. $150-200 a night +, 4 nights a week is what you said. My question was what kind of venues were being played that were offering $1000 a night to bands that many nights a week (assuming different venues and not a house band/show)?

it was bogus, but again, you are welcome to contact Jesse on facebook and ask him why he told me that.. everybody likes to paint a rosy picture

what mike said ^

several folks on here including me, tried to tell you nicely that deal smelled fishy. a bullshit detector....you need to have a fully functioning one when dealing w people who make you unrealistic promises. as the saying goes...if it sounds too good to be true....most likely it ain't.

Dayne Nobody IV wrote:never told you guys but Jesse was going to pay me gas bill to drive to Ozark, Mo. to play guitar (not bass) after the band the original RUSSELLVILLE members in the audio link I posted dis-banded..

isn't that the 4 hr bar gig you tried sending my way? the one where you would have had to drive 90 min for $60? who cares that he offered you gas $....what about your time driving?

sheeeeee-it i wouldn't do a 4 hr bar gig playing Marshall Tucker and Skynard tunes w a sub-par bar band for $60 1/4 mi from my house!

he actually has tried 2 more times to get me to play guitar, but although money might be involved and thus, $$$ compensation.....

what money...the big talk BS of those $250 a nt gigs that he blew smoke up your skirt about??? the guy's a BS artist who can't sing in tune. end of story. time to move on.

it ain't worth it unless you getting paid $150.00 to$ 200.00 a night or more,, if you ain't making close to that, you might be a glutton for punishment.. hauling gear and such, is for grunts unless the pay is right.

that's certainly one way to look at it. but others who play because they love to play... and enjoy playing in front of an appreciative audience will have a different take.

me, i don't see 90- 95% of the gigs i play as "work". I've had "real jobs" where i "worked", so trust me, playing music i enjoy w good musicians/good folks...that ain't what i call "work". 8)

if someone only sees it as work....they should probably sell their gear, or at least....just stay at home and give up on the idea of playing out if they see it mostly as "work".

do pizza joints pay well?

since this is the only pizza joint i've ever played, i'm not really qualified to answer due to insufficient data.
but i suspect they're no different from bar gigs, weddings, corporate events, etc. ......some pay better than others.

truck stop gigs are no doubt better paying than pizza joints.. more truckers than pizza eaters on any given night = better pay? :)

entirely different gig... pizza gig is a tues night gig in Fulton MO (small town USA) at a place that seats maybe 60 people.

Truck Stop gig is a Fri/Sat gig at a huge '70's style saloon off of I-70. Lots of truckers but mostly the place is filled by locals.

apples and kumquats.

I am happy for you Planetguy, that you have fun doing it..I must admit it was fun 30 years ago, but at nearly 61 the bones are lucky to stand up for 4 hours straight.. little along lugging gear, tearing down gear, loading it into vans, and then holding a heavy instrument on the shoulder too... glad you are still as spry as a spring chicken.. me ..not so much..

thanks dane.

since i don't always listen to my moms...i WILL share w you that we're the same age. i too am 60 and change.

lugging gear....setting up....standing on my feet for three or four sets (trk stop).....that's all part of the deal. and like everything else in life, it's a compromise. you do THIS so you can have THAT.

as for any chicken like spryness.... yeah, i try to stay in shape. eat well. hit the gym regularly. play sports. etc. but about 6 mos ago i broke the seismoid bone in my left foot. that's a bone that can't be fixed...it has to be removed. and last month i broke the exact same bone in my right foot!

so, i've been gigging w two fugged-up feet because surgery to remove both bones doesn't happen for another month. point being....to do something you love, sometimes you make sacrifices. and sometimes you play w and thru the pain....you give up THIS to get that THAT. 8)

yeah, what was schmed's problem?.. he was acting all sensitive and defensive over nothing.. and then made little quips about the tune I posted.. :)

Dayne. I'm sorry I work 10 hour days and have to back away from the keyboard while you ask questions, answer them yourself, misinterpret what you answered on my behalf and then real fun starts. I'm out. do this without me, please.

what are you bias against me for some reason? ..it was me answering a question posed by Planetguy? so you and Planetguy ought to get together and ask him why he said he would send you to kill me.. maybe you ought to take up your hostility somewhere else..you don't read all the posts? you just check mine out so you can attack me for no reason, yes, you were sensitive about me wondering where your version was?..you think I had some sort of malice for asking? maybe you need to slow down.. :D

If it feels more like 'work' than anything else, and the pay isn't enough to live well on, then it might be time to move on.
You've got to love what you're doing - or at least some/most of it.
Until you get to the "next level" (where you have roadies, guitar tech, etc), it's always been 'I don't get paid to play music, I get paid to schlep equipment'.

dane...it was a joke on my part. instead of the old cliche..."I could tell you, but then I'D have to kill you" , i thought it would be funnier to insert someone else's name in there. it could just as easily have been Jook, Mike, Jimmy...whoever.

so, it was like a joke...only not as funny.
