Welcome to Bandmix and MO, Cameron from a fellow (transplanted) Show Me State musician. In my case I'm originally from NYC but the Mrs. and I have been in Mid MO since '84. We live in Tebbetts, MO just outside of Jefferson City.
So, unfortunately there are about two hrs of geography between us. Otherwise it might be fun to get together. I'm a multi-instrumental guy....bass, gtr, mando, vibes, and marimba. I'm into the music(s) you mentioned as well as a few others.
I'm not sure what the scene is like over on that side of the state. I do know that one of the bands i play with, PLANET JAZZ does make it out to Waverly every now and then to play a few spring/summer gigs at a winery there. Waverly is about 20 miles due East of Lexington.
We work quite a bit in the Mid MO area (Columbia, Jefferson City, Lake of The Ozarks, Fulton, etc) and believe it or not, we stay pretty busy working between five and eight gigs a month.....playing jazz in Mid MO!
