I'm interested in getting into building my own stomp boxes. I've got a ton of experience wiring up guitars... and thought "how hard can it be".

I'm wondering, has anyone tried one of these "general guitar gadget" kits?

What good/bad experiences with DIY effects have you had?

Know of any alternatives to the general guitar gadget kits?

Thanks

My father was an electrical engineer. He once tried to get me into his thing by giving me some schematics for a ring modulator, a distortion pedal, & a wah.

I made the ring modulator, but hated it...never tried anything else. Building the darned thing seemed to be too much of a hassle at the time, esp when it's so easy to buy one of the ready-made pro jobs.

Yeah, I def wouldn't be building them to save money... more so for the experience and to learn more about "what does what"... not to mention the thrill of building/playing a ts808 that is 'true to spec' (they are hard to find even if you have the money).

It's really something you'd have to be doing for the love of it... cause you can buy just about anything you want for $50 these days.
