[quote="philbymon"]Boy...getting info from you folks is TOUGH!

a dozen responses & only the name of one act...tnx, Bob, I did look him up & he's pretty good .

So nobody likes nuffin, then? Or is it that you're ashamed to like 'em?

C'mon...Matchbox 20? Cake? John Legend? Evanescence? Alicia Keyes? Sarah Borallis? Anybody?

Is all the ppl over 40 just curmudgeonish or what?

(wanders off grumpin' about dem young whippersnappers ruinin' all the music & stuff...)[/quot

Hey Philby,
Ain't ya payin' attention?
Jeska Hoop is the best new thing goin' down in my opinion.
"Moonalice" ain't too bad either, but I think G.E. sounded just as good in the "Rubber Chickin", and that was 4 decades ago!
Beside those acts , Irmy recently turned me on to an excellent composer that I hadn't heard before. (Zbigniew Preisner)
Also, PhrAilSteve got me aware of some awesome newer polymetric metal (Tesseract) You can never be too old to appreciate new things.
Now excuse me while I go listen to Fastfret Ry's new song he's got posted. :D

Well, I do like 2 tunes K.T. Tunstall does . . . . "Black Horse & the Cherry Tree," and "Suddenly I See,"
Niice rhythms . . .
I usually don't mention other artists I like, though, because 1) I'm not a reallly a big fan of anyone, anymore, and, 2) someone invariably jumps down my throat for having the 'wrong' opinion.
It's too much of a hassel to have to defend some music that I may happen to like.
. . . I don't care enough about it . . . besides, you can never win that argument . . .
I'd rather be recording music, than arguing about the music of other musicians . . .
Hmmm come to think about it, I'd rather be recording music than arguing about ANYthing . . .

Pretty lady, pretty voice, Vocal inflection style seems much more appropriate in the country genre. Thanks for the music for us to listen to.
Good luck with the band search Stephanie!

Stephanie,
Just gave "In my dreams" a listen. Excellent songwriting and singing.
You are but a few years older then my grand daughter, so as a fellow musician, and an elder, I feel compelled to offer some advice. As a young college student, I would bet you could find some excellent players right on campus to form a project to develop your musical skills. Gigging around town is hard, risky work, and the money isn't that great. Keep your priorities straight, and make the most of your education. Your talent is evident, and it's apt to only get better over the years, so there's no hurry to be out "tearing up the stage"
I look forward to listening to your other songs ' when time permits.

I'm mainly into unsigned these days - they need the support but like Morrisey, Oasis, Pulp, Green Day, Travis, Coldplay etc. But most of all Colourkinesis, Amsterdam, Damien Dempsey.

From the "old days" I was "into" the Who (when Moon played) Stones (Jones!), Bowie, Sam Apple Pie, Tyrannosaurus Rex, Beefheart, Leonard Cohen, Dylan...

And somewhere, Nina Simone & Springsteen fit into all that...

Thanks!

There's some great new stuff to listen to, & learn from, in your responses.

Just what I wanted when I asked!

Keep 'em coming.

lol Well, I probably don't count as "older" yet...but I'll only have a 2 in the front of my age for another week or so if that tells ya anything ;)

And yet, ITA with you on the music. I was raised by a couple 'a hippies listening to Fleetwood, Steppenwolf, Eagles, BOC, Sabbath & the list goes on. As a vocalist, I appreciate the sound & lyrics as package...not much new stuff appeals to me.

I am a HUGE fan of Collective Soul, Creed, love Evanesence with the soft girlie-type vocals but the harder music, Hootie & the Blowfish, Days Of The New with their hard acoustic sound, and some newer Christian rock from MercyMe, Casting Crowns, Lifehouse, Kutless, Seventh Day Slumber, Pillar & Switchfoot.

Is that what you were lookin' for :?: :)

I'm not over 40, but I'm getting old.
Just to name a few since 1990:
I liked the first Pearl Jam album. "TEN" Great rock record.
Alice in Chains.
Rage against the machine.
Soundgarden -- Superunknown.
I liked Godsmack when they came out.
Audioslave.
Tool.
Flyleaf.
Disturbed. (Their new single is brilliant.)
Opeth.

Some of:
3 days grace.
Chevelle.
Creed.

I like lots of stuff, old and new.
