Hi there,
Im a 35 year old work man that records improvised songs on the voice recorder on my phone. I have been doing this for years and have hundreds of songs. Heres the problem though. I cant play an instrument and cant really sing. Also know one in world has ever been aware I do this.
Im here to basically gain an option from others and also to try and find someone to collaborate with and help me add some music to these ideas.
I have a couple of sample recordings on my profile for anyone to listern to but please bare in mind as I said im not a singer and they are pure improvisations recorded on my phone whilst driving my car.

Oh well thats that. I'm open to any kind of comment. As I said this is the first time I have let anyone listern.

P.s I dig holes for a living.

Hi,
No im completly genuine. I have always thought of songs and recorded them in private. But I have no idea why im doing it or for what purpose. So im 35 now and thought its about time I get someones opinion. Its a bit embarrassing asking my wifes because its not how she knows me. Of course I want to improve but I have no idea where to start. So my main thought was if I could find someone who liked one of my improvisations they could help me add music or even a decent voice and turn it into a proper song. But I should post more songs on my profile maybe. I am pretty naive with this sort of thing as I said im a groundworker not a budding musician.
Cheers
P.s what does snarkey mean?

You might want to join an online forum dedicated to songwriting, such as http://www.musesongwriters.com/forums/ where you can get friendly criticisms and suggestions on your lyrics. You may find a collaborator at one of these places, but there are also websites and forums for song collaborators, too.

Another thing you can do is to look for any local songwriter groups close to where you live.

Check out 'Songwriting for Dummies.' I've been writing songs for many years and still found it a good straight forward look at a) how to do it, and b) where to place it. Sort of a handbook - there are many others.

We all write songs. Where do we want to sell them, or hear them played? Or play them ourselves?

btw - If you can dig holes you can play enough piano or guitar to put some backbone into songs. (I speak from experience believe me) Otherwise you are a lyricist. I'm not being 'snarky' when I say that. 8)

You can pick up a synthesizer for a couple hundred bucks these days and surprise the heck out yourself. Don't need to write the score sheet but you need to have a way to show a collaborator how you hear. Just a few chords are ridiculously easy. (and youTube will show you the way)

Good Luck

There is also software like 'Band In A Box' where all you do is select a genre, key, and then can put the song together in pre-formed blocks ('verse', 'chorus', 'lead', etc).

Thats great advise thanks everyone thank you. Everyone is really saying the same thing. And im hearing it like this. Get off your backside and learn the basics of an instrument. Then I can put my own structure to the song. And i suppose as they are my ideas i should have at least half an idea how the music would best fit with the lyrics. (Or maybe not). But as you said Mike and I completely agree, a good songwriting guide and a keyboard is gonna get me closer to having a tangible song as aposed to just a load of words on a voice recorder.
Thanks everyone. going to get cracking and see if I can take things up a level or two. Just as soon as I finish digging this hole of course.
