consider myself blessed to not have to try to do, or at best, emulate Brent Mason or Albert Lee lead guitar solos, I could not do them anyhow.. :)

for the first time getting together I would rate it highly..Jessee kept on telling me I was killin' it, "sounding really good" on "Can't You See" and actually wanted me to play more lead soloing..(the second time thru) than the actual Marshall Tucker Band did on that tune, in which I obliged him.. reason why we did it a second time was that Jesse wanted us to (well, I don't know the Italian musical word for it) slowly play "lighter" gradually until we come to silence so he can do the refrain singing CAN'T YOU SEE CAN'T YOU SEE WHAT THAT WOMAN HAS BEEN DOING TO ME repeating several times and then spontaneously on cue starting the D-C-G chorus, quite an easy tune, but really fun to improvise guitar lead soloing..I love bending notes on electric guitar and can do 3 octave bends and ghost bends quite readily..
timing issues or should say tempo issues with "Devil In The Bottle" that song HAS TO BE PLAYED SLOW PERIOD or it won't work.. those beautiful pedal steel parts just won't be able to be fitted in.. it never got off the ground too mucjh because of this problem, found out the practice period from now on is 1:30 to 6:00 PM on Sundays

I am thinking the leader is wanting to go the originals route, but Jesse kept insisting need covers at a 4:1 ratio starting out.. it was really fun and I only wished I had one of those pocket digital recorders now at 99.00 or whatever, I might buy one this week just to post to board the sound :D

So you're in, ready to do them high-payin' gigs? Very cool--happy for you. Lemme know if you make it down 'round these parts.

Can't You See? Haven't played that since I was in my guitar phase, doin' what they called 'country rock'--and we had a guy who could play pedal steel (we did a lot of PPL back then). Used to use the echoplex for the turn-around. That's a good jam tune, you can run off leads all day long. Most MTB tunes are like that (i.e., Ramblin').

Your guy is right about mixing originals/covers. Gotta make a name for yourselves playin' tunes everyone knows while slippin' in your own stuff. The key is to have a consistent sound, what you're known for; too many bands want to be all things to all folks and are all over the map, like a live juke box, and they become indistinguishable from so many other bands. Develop your own sound and stick w/ it. Hope it works out well for you.

I'm one of those guys that like to see progress from week to week, the way I figure, if it stays "static" for more than 3 weeks it is time to move on.. or just settle back into being content writing and playing at the house.. either way, it's a win-win..and that is why I just purchased a Tascam DR-05 on amazon for 91 dollars, just an hour or so ago, .. tape/disc does not lie, and if there is diagreement about the wrong walk-down notes being played, a DR-05 can prove who is right and who is wrong.. :o   :!: :|

the problem is I do not know who is heading this band now?.. yesterday Jesse was singing like a bird, but Lane McBride was there singing like a bird too..have you heard these guys sing? great vocalists.. we did not have a bassist yesterday, had Bob Stillman playing at first a 12-string Taylor acoustic guitar, and then on drums (vacant drum seat and set there).. then Bob and Lane took off to go get a bass guitar at Bob's place, gone for a 1/2 hour or so, come back and got Bob on the bass, with then Lane strumming guitar, later Lane switched to keyboard on "Devil In The Bottle" Bob stayed on bass, I played guitar all day, until when Lane broke out his originals and I then switched to bass, since Bob already knew the chords, and easier for me to just play bass lines then.. it was productive all day ..with a bassist and drummer being there yesterday would have been better, since Bob is really a guitarist and I consider myself a guitarist too.. Bob used a capo all day, not once did he take it off.. and me on the other hand seldom uses a capo.. :D

Sounds hopeful, but also sounds like it needs to get organized.

I will definitely just shut up and play my guitar, and follow orders since I am not the designated bandleader.. Mike, my Tascam DR-05 is supposed to be here either Friday or Saturday, I plan on recording the whole session next Sunday, organized or dis-organized and let everybody here it, might even peddle it to the people with music session fetishes, the ones who like to hear the arguing, "no, it's this way", microphone feedback howls and such.. :D .. I always wanted to listen to a Beatles Abbey Road recording session as it was occurring, not after it had been "refined".. and mastered :D
