I'm on my way from St Louis to Texas on Hwy 70, sitting at the McD's on Jefferson St in Lebanon wondering what all my Missouri buddies are up to on this Saturday night, July 30th?

I'm having a shake and checking email for a little bit. Sure would like to go check your band out, or even just get a beer with ya.

Nothing on their Facebook page.

But didn't he say he was busy with another band? Oh wait....he's in Columbia, a couple hours north from here. Oops.

OK...looks like I'll be getting home a little earlier.

one day Ted, I would like to play guitar in your band, or just jam.. been waiting on a call or email back from Jesse the vocalist to see if the audition is still set for tomorrow at 1:30 PM.. sounded like maybe the bassist and drummer were let go a few nights ago, some conflict of interest or something..I have my 5 tunes I was given over the phone, playing lead guitar down pat on them. but still going to bed at 9:30 to get up at 4:30 to still hit the swap meet tomorrow morning, get home at 9:30 take a two hour nap to head to the audition ..it's in Ozark, Mo. ..otherwise we would hit some club on the square in Springfield or maybe Lindberghs on Commercial St. but I will be in bed in around an hour and a half.. safe travels Ted.. :D

ok, just called the audition is still on but without a bassist or drummer tomorrow at 1:30.. just called Jesse and once again phone handed over to Lane and did most of the talking with Lane McBride out of Mesquite, Texas acting as a manager? I assume? and playing guitar tomorrow filling in.. his band is SOUTHBOUND TRAIN ---> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pes-08minB0

not really sure if he is getting away from performing and now wanting to be a manager? ..NONETHELESS ..TED! if you can hole out in Springfield overnight you are welcome to come to the audition tomorrow in Ozark and YOU CAN PLAY BASS or DRUMS! hell, I might play bass Ted if you can swing the note for note lead guitar on" Can't You See" by Marshall Tucker Band.. I have it and it's fun as hell playing it..LOL
:D plus got Sawyer Brown's rendition of Six Days On The Road figured out, the cool and stylish steel guitar parts to T.G. Shepard's "Devil In The Bottle", Haggards Mama Tried with the intricate fingerpicking, and not much lead guitar to She's A Miracle by Exile but still fun even the neat A to F#m E maj. walk-down leading into the neat bridge on the tune.. :)

I get it good and soupy with a lot of overdrive and sustain to mimic the flute sound, a dry clean tele twang would not cut it ..if you listen to a flute it has a lot of harmonics bouncing out giving it a fat tone..hah!

Hey Ted.....sorry we weren't able to meet up for some tunage and beer consumption. ( my brew of choice is most any IPA...but there are plenty of others that work as well. Jook was mistaken. Sorry, Jook... i am not a fan of Fat Tire but i do drink New Belgium's RANGER IPA...New Belgium also brews Fat Tire but i don't hold that against them).

Jook is however correct in saying P-JAZZ has been busy. We played 8 gigs in July. Not too shabby for a JAZZ band playing around Mid MO. This of course is in addition to the other groups i play with and a cpl of solo gigs too.

This was supposed to be a weekend off and then i got a call for a pick up gig to play bass w a local blues band. That's the gig i was playing yesterday when you were looking to meet up. Brother, count your blessings that you didn't make it by....it was 4 hrs and 20 min of torture playing out (mostly) in the sun. it was a total commerce gig for me and yes....i did feel a little whorish!

what was the band like?....wow, these are super nice people.

no, mark....really, what was the band like??? yep, these are really some super nice people!

anyhow...ted, maybe we can meet up down the rd sometime. i hope so. safe travels.

Yikes!!!! Dude, that leg isn't healing doing crap like that. I'm shooting for the 2 hour Happy Hour crowd INDOORS @ my age. The heat index down here is over 100 degrees every day during July and August (usually). I'm not dragging my precious equipment out in that crap for any amount of money. Everyone gets grumpy and it's NOT fun. If it's not fun, I'm not there.

tell me about it!

the guy calls me up to do the gig and we discuss the details....we've actually had a break in our heat wave here, from when last week it was in the upper 90's w heat indexes in the 100's...P-JAZZ played three gigs in a row outside in that. (good thing we all really like one another). but we're talking about yesterday's gig when the temps were in the mid 80's and he mentions...."oh yeah, we dress in black slacks, button down white shirts, ties and hats". my reply...."how nice for you! i'll be wearing a short sleeve white shirt and a nice pr of black shorts!"

playing bass in that kind of heat and humidity isn't a problem as my basses are all either bare wood w no finish or poly. now, my upright....it doesn't make it out in any kind of heat and humidity.

on gtr gigs....well, those two old Guild archtops of mine w lacquer finishes....nope, they don't get out in da heat/humidity.

the foot/leg....yeah, that ain't the best and i'm just resigned to dealing w it til my first weekend off when i can have the surgery...in MID NOV!
meanwhile, i've been hauling a nice, thick padded mat to stand on and i bring a stool that i rarely use since most of my gigs...well, they just ain't "sit down kinda gigs". 8)
