I've had about 2 beers in 11 years. Couldn't drink Becks or St Pauli Girl. Preferred Rolling Rock, Blackened Voodoo, Moosehead, Spanish Peaks, Negro Modelo, maybe a Heineken......

I had to give it up because I can get alcohol poisoning from just about any amount of drinks.

Shiner Bock is not bad, even if it's made by old world methods, the water here will never make real German beer. The grains grown here might not be capable of matching it either.

I'll take an Optimator Spaten any day...unfortunately it's almost impossible to find in these parts, and I haven't even looked for a beer in a couple of years. Paulaner Salvatore is good, and I've found a couple of others that will do. Haven't touched an American beer in 30 years. Worst crap in the world. Shiner Bock is the only American beer I did drink for a long time before that...I first tried it at Dudley's Draw, across the street from Texas A&M in College Station. Never touched another American beer again. Horse piss, most of it. Worst stuff ever made. I'll take a dark German ale every time. Spaten if I can find it...

What do you guys think of the whole brown vs clear or green glass bottles controversy?

Does Brown glass really protect the beer from light, which supposedly produces a skunky aftertaste in beers that are still sold in clear or green glass? If so, why can't I think of a single brand that has switched since that clown, Jim Cooke of Sam Adams announced it to the world in a commercial so long ago....... :idea:

That's because all of those suck! Shiner will cure all your ailments and make your wife come home. If you use if for fuel in your truck, you'll 600 mpg and be able to fly to the moon. If you take it intravenously, you'll be a much better musician (but a horrible father).

Same with the Dallas Cowboys, btw.

I agree with the gist of that. German beers top the world (including Shiner Bock), followed by the Czechs, then the Belgians are a close third in a tie some Polish beers.

But in North America, there are no good beers made in the USA. Texas makes the only decent beer on this continent (Shiner Bock!)

I worry about actually drinking the urine of Mexican if it's Corona or Dos Equis.

I had more friends then I could shake a stick at when I used to brew ale in my closet with a fermenter tank.. I brewed ale rather than lager because I could brew it at room temperatures..lager has to be fermented cold..they(feds) would probably bust me if they are watching and saw how much $$ a bottle I got .. I used the canned malt syrups and stuff to cut down on the labor cost..never use table sugar, you will have an ale so hot it will burn your tongue.. aromatic hops and flavoring hops makes a world of difference too... use fuggles breed hops

Billy, have you tried Spaten Octoberfest? Hands down my favorite beer! Any Spaten beer, Shiner Bock! Unfortunately I have to drink Michelob Ultra, low carb beer due to my diabetes which I have beaten and don't want to go back. That Ultra taste very much like Bud Light (horse piss) but I do drink a lot of beer!
