We know that both music and sports are entertainment programs and we have discovered great talents in both the areas as well. However, I was thinking to ask this question to every sports lover and music lover that how these two are related? or how do you related sports and music?

I have been out of the subject for some days back, but reminded when I have accidentally found a website that support both music and sports. Click here to see the website. From that moment, I was looking for a perfect place to ask it. So, this looks very cool to discuss it.

Let us discuss and let me know it :)

Thanks a lot.

Not clicking on that link, but here's my view on sports vs music.

Music has always been there for me. Music will always be there for me. It's all that keeps me sane.

Sports has been something that I came around to later in life and really enjoyed, but it ain't music.
Sports has become a minute by minute anal probe into the worst that the human condition has to offer.
All of this outside the lines stuff. Just shut up and play. Show some backbone and sh*t can the wife beater in the elevator before public outrage demands it. Because it's the right thing to do. Stop covering athletes Twitter feeds and just cover what goes down on the playing field. That is all.

The link is to a 'legal' ticket scalper - sports and concert tickets. SPAM

Sports is a good subject to shoot the sh*t on, wouldn't you say? As opposed to copy and paste political bullshit? Yes?

yes...good plan!

Sports vs. Music?? Totally different critters. There is no connection (unless Iron Man over the PA system gets your blood boiling over your favorite team).

i strongly disagree! both sports and music were huge in my kiddiehood. actively playing and more passively listening/watching.

similarities?

first off....both music and (most) sports are VERY team oriented.

you have a common goal to perform well. it matters little how great any one person is...you live and die as a TEAM.

there's a hierarchy. sometimes it's about you. sometimes it's about you stepping back to help your "team mate". and there's the same joy in being a good team mate in sports ...helping your team mate succeed...as in stepping back to be a good accompanist in music!

as in improvisational music you're reacting and making split second decisions in the moment. make the right decisions.... YEAH! wrong decisions...not so great.

both are also very social deals w lots of interaction and if you're not an "always about ME" type of personality there's a real connection you feel w your "team mates" when things are clicking.

it's often said that basketball is like jazz because it's almost ALL improv. i totally agree. that's why it's always been my favorite sport and i believe it's the reason why it's the one i've always excelled in over others.

hoops, stickball, football, and tennis were really huge in my neighborhood (Bayside Queens NY) when i was growing up. when not not in school we spent most of our time at the playground (often when we were SUPPOSED to be in school!).

You are originally from Queens? Oh, that makes sense because you don't seem very "midwestern".

Good topic! Music and Sports are different critters, but they also have a very important common purpose in America. They bring people together in a way that nothing else can. We can all sing the same song together, we can all enjoy a game together, regardless of race, political persuasion, cultural background, etc.

Music and sports were the vehicle that allowed for the Civil Right Movement, for example. If it had not been for Jackie Robinson or Louie Armstrong softening attitudes towards black people that might never have happened.

Go Warriors!

Same here. Lots of baseball and football in the neighbor's vacant lot!! Lots of AM radio, too.

From a musician's perspective?? Yep, totally agree.
From a general perspective?? Ehhhhh..................I'll get back to ya on that one. :D

well, that's my perspective as a music guy and a sports guy.

i could have told you my perspective as CIA operative but then i would have had to kill you.

now, the fact that someone in the 'general perspective' category might not have been aware of that stuff.....well, that doesn't mean those parallels i mentioned don't exist. they might not be be aware of them, but they certainly wouldn't be hard to grasp once pointed out to them.
