LOL!!!

Ted, are you referring to when i changed the subject talking about Andy Timmons or when i discussed musicians i've hired? Maybe it was when i was talking about my band?

Perhaps you were referring to when i brought up Joseph's lack of skill and amateur status...or when i started talking about my skills and my inability to play gtr fast????

oh wait...that wasn't me "changing the subject"...THAT WAS YOU!!!!

time for YOU to bring some of that "intellectual honesty" you're always carping about, ted.

c'mon, man...i can see the relationship and relevance of all those things to the conversation at hand. same for all the things i talked about in this thread.

and you claiming otherwise....that's either really poor comprehension on your part (another of your pet moves that you like to level at others) or it's YOUR weak attempt at sidestepping w a silly debating tactic.

sorry, but i don't recall suddenly going off topic and discussing Cleveland's chances against Golden State!

nice try ted, but that's a swing and a miss. now, get back to us all in cpl of wks w your "imitation". :D

(Go Warriors!)

There you go again.

I agree on one thing for sure though.....Go Warrriors!

no, no, no, you took it wrong, or i did not convey it as I should have, I figured it was one we could all participate on, because it is a butt simple Page tune..I tried to think of what might be considered his easier stuff to emulate, and this sounds like the simplest, .. as a group participation thing, NOT AS A CONTEST ..did I say contest?..it was really to settle this once and for all, to see by playing some Page and then maybe second phase we do a little NAG but maybe without a sitar? cause who owns a sitar? and then we can all judge as to what is the hardest to emulate? a contest maybe but just to settle this if Page or NAG is harder to do.. bad idea and I wished I had never thought of it and suggested it.. my feelings are hurt now.. thanks

TOTALLY AGREE!!! But Buck Trent taught him banjo and could play both even better.

I played backup guitar for Buck Trent about a year in 1980. Yep, joined a country band just to get out of Beaumont, TX. He had just done an album with Roy Clark, and honestly, I think he might be better than Roy. He could do stuff with a tuning key that Eddie Van Halen couldn't do with a sway bar. He is/was absolutely the best banjo picker of all time, but such an incredible guitarist also.

Unfortunately he was drunk every day by 1 PM and turned into an "unpleasant" person...but it was fun while it lasted.

We could all record ourselves bending one string with one finger on any stringed instrument to see who can do that.

I would still say Nag is 1000 times better playing at modal music .... in my subjective opinion, for my tastes, nothing said here could change that.

OK.....I can accept that.

Nevermind all the rest of what I said. Ha!

There is no objective proof that Page is anything other than a famous and important guitarist to a generation or two, of rock fans. If you are not a rock fan ... then there really ain't much there.

Sure there is, and I wish you would admit this point also.

Page was much much much more than a pretty face who played guitar. His impact on the world would be very hard to calculate, but it is enormous.

He was the first mega-star who screwed the labels instead of being screwed, setting a new standard in the business. Same with Concert promoters, and publishing companies. They were the first major act who refused television and media coverage...and it only made their mystique swell.

He changed the way drums are recorded by using huge halls for natural reverb. There really are at least a dozen or two innovations in recording studio production that had never been done before Swan Song, which made the arena rock era last for basically a decade after he was gone from the spotlight.

And more than any other band, Zep established what guitar rock is. Like it or not, that is quite an accomplishment.

And the innovations they made in live production when they partnered with Showco Sound and Lighting in Dallas are still the industry standard...they were the first to introduce on-stage monitor mixes, for example. The Vari-Light system was developed there and is also still the industry standard.

But to the main point of my debate, it is more about how he is educated in a much broader scope of musical styles, and has physical ability to do things that Nag does not exhibit an ability to do (while the vice versa is not true)

If you are referring to some "objective" measure of observable skills like speed and dexterity, intricacy of content played, then Page is not even on the map. We have pages and pages of classical, jazz, country and gypsy guitar players who objectively run circles around Page.]

You might really think so....and you might even be right....but thats not what you posted as proof...and that is what I have been responding to.

Notice I have never claimed to be able to imitate the kid on the mandolin for example...
